I think the best thing they could do now is actually rename the show GMTV. Imagine the free promotion and hype thatwould bring!

I think that would be the best thing ITV could do. The GMTV name went though the mill a bit with the competition scandal it went through in 2008, but it hasn't been seen anywhere near as much negativity as the Daybreak brand has gone through. I think giving it a third chance would be pushing it a little bit, which would actually be it's fourth overall rebrand in only 3 years!

As I said bringing that back, along with maybe some of the faces or new faces could be just what it need to bring it back to the top. It's all under ITV's overall control anyway so they have nothing to lose as far as I can see apart from their pride taking a little knock bit if it gets them higher ratings then what would it matter.

In my opinion, bringing back GMTV would be the worst thing to do. Look at the ratings of Breakfast and Sunrise. For the week commencing 1st of July 2013, it was in Sky News top 10 with around 160,000 viewers and breakfast averaging 1.5 million. Daybreak reportedly is only reaching less than half of breakfast's average (around 500,000).

Lorraine perhaps peaks at 08:30 as everyone has got their news and are off to work so the demographic perhaps changes. (Lorraine reportedly reaches 1.5 million).

Surely this shows that news is the way to go.

Renaming it GMTV wouldn't add them a single viewer - indeed it would only highlight what a mess of a show Daybreak is. Remember the more Daybreak turns into GMTV, the less people watch. They really should have stuck with the original format and worked to make it more distinct, not more similar, to it's predecessor.

Agreed.

And anyway Good Morning Britain has a much far better sounding name than GMTV, whilst the weekend children's line-up could also be called Wide Awake Club!!!

The fear, of course, is what has happened over the past few years. Daybreak launched with high hopes but as viewers left, itv panicked and slowly reverted back to a GMTV format and without renaming it GMTV again, ITV have gone full circle and are unlikely to try anything different over fears from advertisers withdrawing their funding.

I. Agree with daniel K, they should advertise the show throught the ITV network, all their channels etc, through social media and on ITV news at 10 at the end. IMO.

Why? Are there people out there who think ITV shows a black screen between 6 and 9.25am?

If most peoples idea is that Daybreak is crap, if they trail whats coming up the next day then people may see something they are interested in.

The red box thing they have during interviews seems to have changed from 3d to 2d. It looks better IMO..

Or as is much more likely it will just confirm the idea it's crap.

Exactly. When Daybreak have done promos in the past, it generally puts me off the programme.
