I would axe Daybreak and replace it with ITV News, a format similar to 'Live with John Nicholson or Alastair Stewart' on the ITV News Channel.

In reality nobody would watch it, particularly as it is on ITV and going head to head with a show that people still seem to think is a serious news show.

Nobody watched the Channel 4 Daily, hardly anyone watches Sunrise, and Breakfast News was always soundly beaten by GMTV back when it was a serious news format.

Changing the name or bringing GMTV back will just make ITV look like bigger fools. They need to stick with what they have but make it a great show. How they do that? Good lick to Helen Warner and whoever the new Editor will be - they have their work cut out!

Eamonn's absolutely made the right decision here. If Lorraine Kelly can't fix your ratings it's fairly obvious it's going to take a huge change to sort it.

The Daybreak brand is toxic now. ITV can't switch it back to GMTV as they'll look ridiculous. Not an easy one to fix.

Problem is maintaining what is working (Lorraine) and not throwing the baby away with the bathwater (Daybreak still pulls in a few million viewers - if people wanted a rolling news format they'd go to Sky News).

Is it just me or was there a new break title today?
Instead of the GMTV-style spinning words thing, the Daybreak text just appeared from one of the 'rings'

The problem is lying with the presenter set up I think. If you don't like Aled Jones, it's tough! He's on 5 days a week most weeks so you can't really escape him.

If they had a team of main presenters who alternate for a few days in the week (just like GMTV), then that will give people a bit of variety and are more likely to give the show a try at least most days of the week.

I think relying on just two main presenters has been Daybreak's main downfall. If you haven't been a fan of the pairing of Lorraine and Aled or Adrian and Christine then you're more likely to switch off altogether as the pairings hardly ever change.
Whereas with GMTV you had Andrew, Ben, Emma, Kate and also Penny and John, so there was much more variety and people were more likely to tune in just to see who was presenting rather than just presuming it's just going to be Lorraine and Aled and not bothering to tune in at all.

The Daybreak Twitter account has just tweeted to announce that Sooty and Sweep are on the show tomorrow, and they want to know what questions we want to ask them!!! For goodness sake!!! I have always watched ITV at breakfast time, was a big GMTV fan and have given Daybreak a chance since it launched. However, I'm on the verge of giving up. Whoever has replaced Karl Newton as temporary Editor should be sacked immediately. This is not Cbeebies!

Well I was expecting you to say they'd been announced as the new presenter line up.

The interim editor has only been in charge since Monday and many guests are pre planned. Sooty and Sweep have been on many times in the past, including on GMTV. Whatever the intentions of the current editor, this will not happen overnight.

You know what...I actually said to my Wife a few weeks ago that Sooty and Co would be more popular and a better programme. Throw in some News/Regional News and you could have a hit! Very Happy

If you watch in full. You will see that the full item airs in the Entertainment section at 9 with just two 30 sec (approx) appearances before that replacing the usual ''and finally''/awkward chat item they usually do before they throw to the regional news. Big difference imo.

OK, so I did not know Sooty had been on Breakfast. That certainly doesn't make me a hypocrite, however.

I just think if Daybreak want to be taken more seriously and get more viewers then maybe Sooty and Sweep as guests is not the best idea.
