It would definitely be out of place on the 1964 and 1967 idents (pre-Teletext) and the 1970s, 80s and 1991 idents probably said 888 instead of Subtitles - which of course is not where subtitles are found now. It's definitely good that the idents lack a subtitles tag. They really don't need it nowadays anyway as virtually all shows should have subtitles now.
This is an observation rather than a criticism (we're really being spoiled here and I'm grateful to all concerned) but I'm surprised that none of these idents - with the exception of the NI TWO - have a subtitles indicator. I realise it doesn't mean much these days as pretty much everything is subtitled, and that for some of the older idents it might be out of place to add it, but I would have thought that the 1997 and later idents would have it.

A 1991 still appeared before Cagney & Lacey today.
There was also one in a 1986 style, before Bergerac.

What a nice slide covering the 1989 - 1991 era. There must have been showing a repeat.
Such a nice 1991-92 slide here aswell, all linked I see.

Haven't BBC NI dropped the 'Subtitles' tag on all idents full stop? Or am I confusing them with another nation?
BBC NI have not had the Subtitles tag on any idents for a while now.

Poor choice of picture. Mr Mash, Mr Lucas and Mr Grainger left the show ages ago.

Might have something to do with how well they transferred them to widescreen back in 97.
The 90s 2s really don't look all that out of place in 2014...

I don't think the fact they're in Widescreen is here nor there really. They're just bloody lush visuals; regardless of whether the top and bottom tenth (or whatever) is there. The later additions which were shot in widescreen are just as good, just less remembered probably on account of their relatively short lives.
