Yes the BBC Radio Three Countries Radio problem again, where they want to keep "ITV News" as the brand.

ITV News Channel Reports works I think?

This is the Channel 3 discussion isn't it - Channel 3 Channel would have been such a great name.
As there are 7 inhabited islands, perhaps Channel 3 Channel 7 would remove any confusion?

Confusion with ITV News Granada Reports isn't completely beyond possibility, unfortunately.

I find myself agreeing with Inspector Sands - it needs "Islands". And in response to Mr-Stabby, unfortunately they *have* to let the Channel Television name go eventually.

Channel Report seemed to do the job perfectly well for about 40 years so I'm not sure why there'd be any confusion, who would be confused?

I don't seem to recall any confusion around when nearly every 6pm regional programme was "North East/Anglia/Central etc Tonight".

But that was before the regional programmes took on the ITV News brand. Wink

Any possible confusion wouldn't be among viewers - it would be among members of ITV staff.

The other general point, much like why the Beeb require the regions to keep the same uniform look, is that having the same brand at national and local level helps emphasise their values, so whether you're watching BBC World News or listening to it on Radio Jersey, the emphasis that this is the same BBC News with the same high standards, and it's all part of one big newsgathering operation. Michael Checkland emphasised that in the Beeb's annual report one year when he was D-G, he was at I think Wiltshire Sound and watching them do a phone-in with a vet, and then when he left the studio the telly was on showing coverage of the fall of the Berlin Wall on the news, and he said at that point the BBC was covering both an issue of vital international importance, and the welfare of a cat in Swindon, both with the same high standards and care for the audience.

And similarly it's the case with ITV News, if it's all branded as ITV News, the audience knows it can trust what's on Channel Report or Calendar or whatever just as much as they can trust what's on News at Ten, and it all looks and sounds the same so it means the regional news doesn't look any less important.

If they can cope with three similarly named sub-opts of Meridian I can't see a problem with differentiating Granada Reports and Channel Reports

I'm sure they could cope with 2 programmes made by different teams in different parts of the country having a similar name. I'd suspect internally they're just referred to by their region name anyway.

I think this is something we can agree on.

The BBC seem to manage internally (and externally) with three Look Norths !

It's definitely not absurd to argue that a better name for ITV's regional news service for the Channel Islands would be one with the word "Islands" in it, though, is it?

Ah, well, how about ITV Archipelago then ? Very Happy

"ITV News Channel Islands" has the same number of syllables as "ITV News Channel TV", and one less syllable than "ITV News Granada Reports", so it's not unfair to say that any claim that it would be a bit of a mouthful would fall flat on its face. Granted that it's perhaps less catchy a name than "ITV News Channel TV", but how catchy *does* the name have to be here?

From a standing start, sure. ITV News Channel is the logical name to use but has a dual meaning, so isn't really suitable. If you are adding an extra word, why not use the established brand, Channel Reports?

It was Channel Report. But that name disappeared 8 years ago now.
