Personally, I think it just looks odd. The old video wall, even though perhaps not the clearest thing in the world, at least looked like part of the set. The new one just looks like an oversized plasma that's been dumped there.

It looks too tall and too out of place. Plus, if you notice the afternoon TOTHs, when the desk is facing the newsroom, the anchors body covers up quite a large portion of the desk, which is why I think they should have guilty it slightly more to the right.

I also hope they don't just leave on the video of the iPhone, iPad and laptop for the TOTHs. I rather preferred seeing the image of the main story in the newswall as it wasn't repetitive. And I also think they should bring back the breaking news scrolling text from a couple of months ago (though still used on Bolton & Co.).

TBH given the shape of the screen, they could go back to this sort of set up for Breaking News (the scroll was only brought in because of the shape of the screen and the camera angles they used).

I think it looks ludicrous in the TOTH shot I've seen. This is 2013, not 2004. Huge screens are no longer impressive - they are gimmicky. Take a leaf out of ITV News' book please Sky.

Martin Standord NOT at the wall for business update. Do I have to understand this?

Oh My God. This is appalling, can Sky News actually think of spending money on something necessary, not new crappy stupid graphics, ridiculous Screens and Jesus too much standing up. Sky has not learned from The Day Today, or like ITV learned from spending money on pointless things.

Without sounding bitter can I ask a question directly to Stardust12 - Could Sky News do anything that in your opinion would be bad?

What an absolute mess. It looks like it has just been wheeled in, thrown in a corner and taped together with random pieces of plastic.

@DTV : Then I don't understand your question, I was often criticising their presentation.

But I don't understand why so many immediately have to humble such a great work. Of course these are just opinions, but I really can't find something ludicrous or appaling with this new wall.

My only issue is that it really should have been better integrated with the rest of the set, much like it's predecessor. The previous news wall felt as if it was a structural part of the studio where as this one feels more like a separate object within the studio.
I'm glad that Sky have used it as they have today, using standing presentation where it fits, and not excessively.
When the wall is shown on it's own,* it does look much than when used as a background to the rest of the studio,(*2) which is when it does look like a wheeled in plasma.

I am happy to finally see a much more 'current' way of displaying a 'down-the-line' interview, with displaying the interviewee on a screen within the studio instead of a split-screen.

I like the fact it is just put in the studio with space around it, it seems you can hide behind it and then walk from behind it when a show begins Smile

From a personal point of view, the old newswall with today's kind of use would have been perfectly fine. This new wall was a bit of a waste to be honest, and looks very weird compared to the rest of the studio. As said previously, it looks like a separate piece of the studio.

And so, the secret is revealed, it runs Windows Very Happy

I'm sure it's just the engineers plugging in their laptop though Wink

Preferred the old one - the new laptop just doesn't look right and in those desk shots reminds me of the old Father Ted joke on perspective.

I think the reason it doesn't work is it's just been dumped in the corner of the existing studio - I think really they needed to build a new set around it so it doesn't feel so out of place.
