Looking forward for 19th. At least the newsroom is getting some festive cheer in the midst of currently dark headlines at the moment.

Just thought I'd make a few notes about today's 10AM simulcast bulletin.

- Two international stories in the headline sequence (Nigerian kidnap and NSW lockdown)
- First 15 minutes spent on UK lockdowns
- Other than brief mention of Austria at 1007, first international story (Nigerian kidnap) at 1014-1017
- Headline recap, then Brexit at 1018 (which I guess is sort of international, but primarily a UK story)
- New South Wales state lockdown story at 1022.
- Brief mention of US Moderna vaccine at 1024, before returning to UK covid stories.
- BOTH headline recap same as TOTH, before US hacking story at 1033.
- European Covid response at 1038
- Back to the UK for a courier story at 1045, then headline recap.
- US snowstorm at 1048, 'and finally' stories from 1050 and weather at 1056.

Not sure of the World opt-in and opt-out times, but probably a fair balance between UK and international stories given the circumstances, but still far from ideal for an international news channel - particularly the UK-heavy first half-hour.

Most notable difference for World viewers this year has probably been the pacing - BBC World News bulletins were always paced more like national bulletins than the rolling news format of the news channel and these shared programmes.

I wonder if they are trying new formats trying to turn it more into the 5am hour on BBC One, isn't the opt-out 1025-30 for a break and 1042-1045. This looks like a long term commitment to have that hour reading post covid budget cuts as well. I think eventually it will be called something like 'The World's Newsroom' or back to 'Newsroom Live'

The Christmas trees are too subtle this year, can’t see them in any shot other than the newsroom wide.

I’m sure you were able to at least see them on the presenter + screen shot previously?

The Bbc news channel has been advertising ‘BBC news with katty and Christian’ all weekend and today that it was going to be on at 9pm tonight only for it to not actually be on. Why do the promos play out if it’s not going to be on.

There was a memo last night following the tier four announcements of further simplicity in schedule and on Thursday it was strongly suggested it was last show of the year. Maybe no one told channel controller

Is world news taking Nicola sturgeons first ministers questions since it’s been shown on the news channel during a simulcast or is it showing something else?

Before the 10pm bulletin, we saw what appears to be a rehearsal. Here’s a clip if you’re interested:

I've always liked that grey shadow globe sting that BBC World News use for opt-ins, it's a shame they don't use it more widely.
