It’s strange that studio C was getting some maintenance done last night and they didn’t fix it. Although, they were working before they moved studios, so maybe it just happened this morning when they moved back from E.

Maybe somebody unplugged something they shouldn't have? I mean, if you are working on the catwalk LEDs, it's unlikely you'd notice accidentally messing up the fairly discreet ones on the other side of the studio.

I wonder what Focus on Africa will look like, usually the vent part is lit green.

The very few occasions of late that I’ve seen studio c it’s starting to look very run down. Especially the cat walk.

And with that the would probably be my last post here, posting on the channel that got me into tv presentation in late 2003! To JamesWorldNews itsrobert and harshy who are three who I can remember from way back then I hope to see you over tv live forum!

Cheers Asa and TV Forumers from all over the world.

Well as I said yesterday, these sets are the best part of a decade old now and Studio C has been in use more than any other, so you'd be surprised if they weren't beginning to show their age a bit. Although, compared to 2003 N8 set which was a similar age by 2013, it still looks pretty good - I can't see any duct tape holding it together yet!

It’s held up pretty well considering it’s on air 23 hours a day and is 9 years old now. I agree though, it’s not looking it’s best.

The problem is is that, when the time does come to replace the NBH sets, it'll be a nightmare. It's not like it was 20 years ago when the set could be ripped out and a new one put up over a weekend, these days new sets take an age to install - with an increasing amount of tech needing to be calibrated and weeks of rehearsal being the norm.

Plus you have the decamping issue - entire channels will have to move to temporary homes for months at a time - and the simultaneous issue - do you do Studio C and E at the same time or not. It would be possible to do both simultaneously - one could move into B and the other into D, with London relegated to A. But which gets which - World is more familiar with B, but I'm sure that nationals would rather have the larger studio and catwalk. You could of course install new sets one at a time, but with unprecedented levels of simulcasting between NC and World - you'll have months of one studio being completely different to the other (while they have done this before, it is suboptimal from a branding/relaunch point of view).

Then you've got the Furios - do you:
- Keep them as is - in which case your set design options are limited to being very similar in layout to the existing sets.
- Introduce a new track layout - additional time to install and calibrate the cameras.
- Replace with new tech - gives you the most options for new set design, put also the most expensive.

I think they would have to do E and C separately and just deal with the differences. As long as they both still have a newsroom backdrop available, most people wouldn’t notice I don’t think. Or they could just embrace the fact they’re different studios and have them look different. I’ve never got why they have to make C look like E. I don’t think they could do without the two the main studios.

I know I said I would cap it (my TV Forum post count) at 330 but I have to add my view on this.

The reason they probably had Studios C and E made to look the same is probably out of consistency. Also considering that the BBC World News studio takes BBC News handling overnight. There has to be a level of familiarity to UK viewers who aren't "supposed to know" that BBC World News exists.

Also considering that when the move did occur. If the two studios were different. How easy would it be for the BBC News crew who do the BBC News at Five operating from a different studio with completely different design. Very difficult I imagine.

Given all of the changes done over the last couple of years. How would I go abour doing the studio refreshes?

Move BBC London into A.
Move BBC World News into B, except for things like Outside Source which would come as usual from the Weather Balcony.
Move BBC News into D.

With regard to the cameras, I would keep the layout as it is and build a new design around the layout. The newness would come from being more experimental with the sequencing of the shots and each thing having its own "pattern" as it were when the catwalk needs to be used.

Or whatever the problem was they tried but couldn't fix overnight. I've gone to fix stuff loads of times only to find out what I thought was the problem actually wasn't and I don't have the bits to fix the actual problem, so have to come back another day. Studio kit is no different.
