Fair enough, I assumed the clip they played was from a section of the film that didn't include -or need- effects

Yep. These days most movie EPKs (electronic press kits) are downloads rather than tapes, and they often include a full set of 5.1 stems as separate audio tracks, sometimes accompanied by a 2.0 stereo mix. This can make it easier to produce decent clips in some situations, but can make it trickier in others, particularly if you are desktop editing with basic kit...

This may be a question our insiders can answer in more depth, but is there really no way the iPlayer can get a "clean" version of News Channel output?

Particularly prerecorded programmes such as Click and HardTalk, why the massive banner on the iPlayer versions (covering the ticker). Is there no way these programmes could be loaded onto the iPlayer form server source, I can sort of understand for live programmes but even then why can't a clean output be made available for iPlayer, or plug the iPlayer systems into the ticker-less output that BBC One uses?

I'm sure there is a logical reason why its impractical but I'm curious as to what it is.

Not sure but there were technical problems in getting Click onto iPlayer this weekend, it didn't appear until Sunday.

It does seem strange that programmes that must be delivered in advance aren't available to BBC iPlayer in clean format. I wonder if part of the reason is that BBC News has an unusual path to air compared to other BBC channels.

For Click they seem reliant upon the broadcast in the middle of the night as it seems to be the slot least likely to be dropped.

I thought there just recored the context off the telly, hence the reason you see the start of the ident and ECP. So maybe the Saturday recording was corrupted?

Could well be that programmes like Click don't get ingested into RedBee's playout servers so they need a different workflow to get them into iPlayer and off air is the easy option.

Considering Click has the dirty great big red strap to cover the ticker, it's been recorded from the NC.

I'm surprised at how much content from the iPlayer is from the actual tx these days complete with continuity.

It used to be possible (in theory) as until Victoria Derbyshire it was repeated on BBC Two. Also I'm sure in the past when watching iPlayer via Virgin Media there wasn't any ticker covered up only the 'BBC News' bit present.

That would be my guess. The only version of Click delivered to Red Bee would presumably be the BBC World News version (I think they do different versions for the two channels - with different e-mail addresses etc.)

I think that is mainly the case with live programmes. At one point iPlayer would sometimes ingest live content via a different workflow, but there were too many issues with rehearsals going out...

Another issue, which may or may not come into play, is that the News Channel will often drop or re-schedule content at short notice. If the show was made available on iPlayer before it had been TXed you could be in a whole world of rights issues in some situations. Less likely for News Channel shows, but not impossible.
