I've been up late a few days this week to see the News Channel's output post midnight and Newsday feels completely inappropriate for a UK audience that's just about to go to bed. If budget cuts necessitate bringing live output to a close at midnight, then I think it would be better to put out a repeat of Newsnight and the paper review.

I think it works here. For British viewers it's sort of end of day round up and a lead into the next days news.
Agreed. Plus, if World is putting out live coverage then it makes complete sense to simulcast it in lieu of repeats.
Anybody can watch a Newsnight repeat on iPlayer if they want - shame there is a limited red button service these days, it would perhaps be a good option to have (an in-depth look back at the day's news which doesn't rely on being live).
The hour of 'BBC News' on a Sunday looks so odd in the schedules. Why can't they just extend Breakfast until 10am on summer Sunday's.
I'm guessing internal BBC politics regarding the split between Salford and London probably has something to do with it.
Even when everything was based in London they still ran an hour of BBC News instead. I recall Peter Sissons presenting them under possibly the brand of Sunday 24. A news channel simulcast for an hour is probably the most cost effective.

News 24 Sunday I believe it was called. Based in the area used mainly for sport and business in N8.

Yes - though that was a replacement for The Andrew Marr Show / Sunday AM ISTR and only on-air when that show wasn't ?

Yes. Serving the same purpose as the hour of news currently on BBC on Sunday mornings for August.
There's a new (I think) sport version of HardTalk called "Extra Time" that seems to be on this week with Rob Bonnet hosting, coming from Studio C. Not sure if this is on World also?
