Quite sad and unbelievable what they've done to the News Channel and this seems to be only the beginning.

The normal decision would have been to continue the VD drivel on BBC2 while News Channel takes over World's rolling news coverage.

EDIT: CNNI is a rolling news channel again, especially in the mornings with CNN Newsroom blocks that are also simulcasted on CNN US overnight.

BBC News Channel absolutely crap since Victoria Derbyshire toddled along! 9am in the morning? Lots of breaking news!

Let's make the channel about this news, and not about the person presenting the 'news' or in this case 'lovely films'!

Does any of this matter? If the Conservative government get their idiotic way, the BBC News Channel will be no more soon, anyway.

That's the problem with the show. It wants to set the agenda rather than follow the news agenda.

But given that this programme is a cost saving exercise its obviously going to take something major for it to air BBC 2 only and free up the NC for rolling news.

Even if Victoria Derbyshire is shown only on BBC Two and News Channel is simulcasted with World, that would be much better!

The Victoria Derbyshire show reminds me of those BBC One Sunday morning discussion / debate shows that air after Andrew Marr. Perhaps a once a week, Sunday morning slot is where it belongs.

I have probably said this before but I've often wondered why the Andrew Marr Show isn't simulcast on the News Channel on Sundays - at least that is an agenda-setting programme.

Yea, I suppose something like a First World country being saved from total economic collapse ?

Is there a generic National News thread anywhere? Can't find one...

Either way, I wonder why the promo for the 10 that goes out at 9pm/9.30pm on BBC One is still being recorded in A. The studio isn't used for anything else, so surely they're wasting the staff there for the sake of 30 minutes?

As the usual NC/National studio isn't in use after 8.30pm now, I don't get why they don't just use that!

Studio A's gallery does Outside Source so it's staffed.

The NC is funding Victoria Derbyshire out of its budget so should be shown during major breaking news. Admittedly the scheduled interviews could be recorded afterwards and posted online later in the day as I believe Studio B is free for a short time or decamp to A for that. I think if today was a normal edition it would have been the focus but as it wasn't, the location was probably decided weeks before it was clear what was happening in Greece.

The same argument can be made for Outside Source which isn't cancelled during major breaking news. They both provide a different take on the developing story and so have the right to show this to viewers.

The BBC are really pushing VD into the viewers face. I don't mind the show, but I don't like how the BBC news channel is being "switched off" while VD is on. I can't see the point, she would be better off on BBC one with a talkshow, is this meant to be saving the BBC money, how?

If there is a situation in which the BBC News channel is not really a news channel, i.e. every other hour they are showing one of these filler shows, then they should just scrap it and show BBC world. They can always break into this if something major happens in the UK and they can still show the normal breakfast, 1,6,10 bulletins, and things like Daily Politics.

This VD, Outside Source (what the hell is it trying to be?), World News (news, but just relaying another channel), and so on, just get on with it BBC, kill the channel.
