News at Ten didn't have a presenter in the studio either. It is good though they can do a whole bulletin on location.

On such occasions, I wonder if they have a presenter desk-sitting, just in case something goes wrong with both ob's/links?

I think they would have cover just in case but touch wood it wasn't needed. Although I woul think if no studio presenter is scheduled then the NC presenter could be on standby just in case.

That would be standard - particularly if there isn't a properly redundant second path from the OB and backup power. Even if they aren't doing 'the rest of the days news' from the studio, there would normally be someone poised to take over.

I actually prefer this opening - with minor tweaks - I think it'd be better. Will they update the opening theme anytime soon? I think it sounds a bit dated as is.

Disagree I'm afriad. I like the current opening. Think it's fast paced and punchy. Wish BBC World would follow suit.
The music in your mock up is dated and slow.

Is it normal for the News Channel (and possibly national news) to use some of the regions reports, as in the last 15 minutes or so one reporter said, 'BBC Look North' and another one said 'Reporting Scotland'.

I guess if a report has been made there is no point in making another, but I'm just wondering if this is normal for the News Channel as I haven't seen it before

Yep - entirely normal after the regional 1830 opts have gone out. During the life of News 24 and the News Channel there have also been specific half-hours or hours where regional reports have been specifically used (News 24 Tonight, UK Today etc.) but even when shows like this aren't in the schedule, regional reports have been used on-merit. No point in clipping off the regional out-cue, there's no reason to pretend that it isn't a regional report on the News Channel.

I'm surprised the regions haven't been instructed to just sign off BBC News. Don't the ITV regions do that now?

When I was at the BBC reporters would record two out cues if the package is expected to be shown elsewhere, the second after a few seconds after the main one. Then the other programme will re-edit the ending.

The second cue never accidently went out as the gallery cut away long before it.. Hopefully

Fairly good coverage on BBC News today, I only spotted two slight faults today at the TOTHS.

First one at 5pm with Annita McVeigh, titles ran and instead of the newsroom pan we saw her with her finger in her ear waiting for the intro to finish. should have used the camera looking along the street if they could!

Second one was at the 7pm TOTH (no 6pm TOTH) with Chris Eakin, the titles ran but the trundle was stuck next to the stairs looking over to the weather department, everything went fine after that.

I like the original sign off being present personally, there's no harm in showing the context and provenance of a report.

So what happened there then, never seen anything like it before! 10:30pm closing with Reeta clsoing music and newsroom shoot then a few seconds later the music is played again and the newsroom lighting fades from blue to white.

Then no half hour trundle after the promos and straight to Martine with The Papers and she made a comment on the fualt like she always does when something goes wrong!

The lights in the newsroom are still in daytime mode (white) as of the 11pm top of the hour.

Why are the lights blue for the 10 o'clock then why do they switch back again to white? I always thought they switched to blue for the start of News at Ten and went to white at around 6 am for Breakfast!
