FIVE - a return to pre 2011 Channel 5

Channel 5 is a name, FIVE is a brand. (May 2014)

I am constantly improving in the aspect that earlier today I had not attempted to show the logo in a video.

The images were of low quality that was just a google search to show the idea of them within the circle. I don't understand what is boring about it if I am honest. They are changing direction and does what it needs to - showcase FIVE's shows. I think compared to the way channel 5 show their upcoming programmes it is a lot more interesting. My plan was, if this was enjoyed, have images that were clear along with some videos within the circle.

I am willing to take the time but I need to know if anyone likes what I am doing - I get that some of the images are pixelated and the font isn't liked. Now, I'm concerned the logo isn't as good as I thought it was due to Brekkie's comment.

Thanks.

I'm constantly improving but I have to say comments like yours are extremely negative. As time goes on I am prepared to make adjustments - this is only the beginning.

I appreciate your feedback - I really do - I hope that you will continue to comment but please for the time being offer some friendly advice too.

Thank you.

The comments reflect the mock. Believe me I was trying to find something positive to say, and if not positive at least constructive. I didn't just want to say "I think it's looks ****" but sometimes things simply do. This is one of those times I'm afraid.

In all honesty I'd probably advise you to ditch the concept you've come up with completely. Work more on some logo designs (away from this place) - the one you've chosen to use clearly doesn't work (as the 1 star rating reflects) and I don't really think it's worth you wasting your time trying to make something that clearly doesn't work and looks pretty **** passable.

Hi Brekkie,

I'm on your wave length and appreciate you getting back to clarify.

I have been working today actually on a complete redesign that ditches harabara and more recognisably the circle.

Without giving too much away before I upload - whenever that is - there is more, I wouldn't say simplicity, but something along those lines in this mock. I'm going to feature colour in a new way as opposed to graidents in a circle but you'll hopefully see that in the near future.

This one has been started around mid day today and I've not went back to it yet - to give myself space from mocking and also thinking time. I'll maybe make a few ajustments later tonight/early hours of tomorrow, I'll see how things go.

Whilst I've not been creating I've been on youtube and just google looking at the way channels present themselve to inspire me. I definitely have a few ideas I just need to see if they work.

I'm hoping the redesign is more appealing and will hopefully exceed where I failed before.

Thanks for taking time once again to provide opinion on my mock.

Hello, I'm back!

I've been working since I last spoke on the forum.

I have included a video which previews my new mock logo. This one ditches the circles and puts a new object at the centre. This one is designed with, not simplicity, but something like that in mind. I'm not even too sure out of this and the previous that I like best due to their differences. I drew this up entirely in sony vegas pro 12.

I'd like to know what you think of the font and colour schemes.

The "/" is the object I was speaking about. The slash forms the second part of the "v" as you've just seen. This I imagine to be the corporate logo as well as the main logo on the channel. When advertising the colour would either change or would have an image of what is being promoted inside it. I have been working on promotions and all that also but can't get them the way I want. However, I do feel close to creaking it. I might even revert to powerpoint to show how advertising would be done.

Anyway express your opinions. Is this better/worse? Tell me what you like/don't like and what to improve.

Thanks.

It is cheap, it looks tacky and overall awful. There is good concept with the animation, but the font is just crap and you need a background.

Thanks for your reply.

You say you like the concept? That animation would be the kind that would be likely to feature in most adverts and my idea - if it works - is to have the "/" enlarged at the left hand side on coming up screens and when promotion shows.

The font was one I had from the previous mock and I wanted to see how it would fare as the main one. I was totally considering changing it anyway, unless everyone thought it was ok, I'm actually on font websites as we speak locating a new one.

As far as this ten second video goes I wasn't having a background as I just wanted to show the animation and new logo. Obviously in future it will not be a plain white background. Not sure what it will be and whether or not I'll use live backgrounds but it will definitely not be that white background.

Can I also that before I had the / as the second part of the v it was initially going to be after the e. Here is what could have been:

Back to the drawing board and stop churning out utter crap.

You've spent 3 hours on it after school? Spend 3 weeks on it and make it polished.

I'd appreciate a little more constructive criticism. I don't think it's crap it is a working progress.

No, not "3 hours on it after school". I've spent the past few days - even before uploading the first one - working on these.

I've been taking advice from everyone and taking some time away like people have suggested. I think I'll decide when it's time to upload another image or video as opposed to your suggestion.

I have all the time in the world where I am right now so I'll continue to work on this for as long as I see fit. The things I've been working on this evening are things that this forum should see possibly tomorrow or in a couple of days.

UPDATE:

Following the second mock that was no more enjoyed than the first I've chosen to experiment with the premium softwares as I know they were mentioned earlier on in this mock.

Of course, as a beginner it has taken me time to figure out how to work these softwares and I am still learning. I've began work on some designs but it's unlikely you'll see them tonight, but you never know.

I think I should probably acknowledge channel 5's sister channels of 5* and 5USA and so on. Therefore, in the next upload I will try and include logos for these stations too.

Thanks for the continued support - hope you like the future uploads let's better channel 5!

Proof you've not taken in a word we've said. We don't want to see your efforts tonight after a couple of hours practice. Give yourself a few weeks to get used to it and come up with a design that is actually worthy of gracing a TV screen rather than rush to post something that will simply not be good enough.

Also you ask for constructive criticism but ignore it anyway.
