The new BBC Wildlife Finder website is online - in the new GVL-style. I assume this is actually a GVL site, and not another 'nod' towards one? It looks really well.

Thanks for posting that, Fireworks. The only parts that I really don't like on that site (and this is minor, I know) are the squares under the main carousel/ featured area at the top - they don't fit in with that site or the GVL, it seems - and the < and > arrows on the smaller carousels, which seem too thin. It's also rather green, and could perhaps do with some more photos or colours to liven up the background.
Otherwise not bad, and given it's launched with the new masthead, can we assume it's proper GVL 3.0?

Just a quick question about BBC iPlayer. I don't use it very often but whilst watching the BBC Four Corrie program it kept jumping between a version of the programme with the BBC Four D.O.G and continuity at the end and a online version with the standard BBC D.O.G and no continuity. It seemed to change when it was buffering. It just seems odd why they have to versions of the same video and why it switches. Is one a backup of the programme recorded off air? Anyone have any ideas?
I suspect one is a lower bandwidth version - why there are differences I don't know, but I would guess that one is encoded at a much lower bitrate and that it is easier to do this from a separate source.

That's probably the answer as the BBC Four recorded one was lower quality than the iPlayer version.
Totally agree - it happened with the last design aswell, when it first launched they put a lot of thought into them, with some of them breaking out of the box. But that went downhill really quickly when somebody discovered a horrible grunge-y font that seemed to be used all the time. Strange to think how long ago that was.
Can't wait for the new homepage in truth - this screams stopgap to me.

Yep - the ones that broke out of the box were sometimes very clever. Here's a quite good example...

That grunge-y font was actually some sort of Doctor Who font.
