Noticed that some elements of the News Banner seem to be miscoded, on IE8 on my machine, hovering seems to disable the forward, back and refresh buttons of the current session, which has to be closed and a new one started to re-enable the functionality.

The header is pretty broken on there - News/Sport/etc seem to be in the middle of the title image instead of in the black bar.

GEL reached the World Service last week with the launch of Great Lakes in the new format. Gahuza is not a huge site, but it gives some idea of how the elements work in an international context.

Work is currently underway to migrate the GVL2 Language sites into GEL over the coming weeks, it's not a huge shift from GVL2 so I think they will be switching at 2-3 week intervals with Turkish the first to change over.

BTW GEL is the Global Experience Language, it was called GVL3 during the early stage of design - but was released as GEL in June IIRC. GVL is now used internally to refer to legacy sites, with GEL for new sites.

That Great Lakes site is, I'm sorry to say, horrible. I've grown to quite like the main BBC News site, but that site is just not easy on the eyes at all...

Is anyone else experiencing problems with BBC iPlayer content this evening?

I've tried accessing a variety of content via three computers on two different connections - Virgin Media and 3 mobile broadband - and all I'm getting is "This content doesn't seem to be working. Try again later."

Grrr.

Yeah, the site's unresponsive for me too. Homepage won't load, iPlayer won't load, BBC One won't stream live, even though the page will load. Not good.

Homepage is unobtainable for me too.

iPlayer working for me now, apart from actually playing the videos. All of the Flash video content seems to be broken across the whole of the BBC website.

8:52 - videos are playing. Homepage is back up!

For the third time in a fortnight, the BBC homepage has 'forgotten' my settings for the news module.

*

I usually have seven sections on display in the news module, rather than the 'one and a half' sections that for some reason it keeps reverting to at random. All of my other settings for the page have been preserved, including which features I want displayed, and which elements within each feature should be retained etc.

Under news, however, it has again reverted to showing just the top stories and local news. The same thing has happened this morning across three computers, so I can't put it to down to a local cookie issue on just one device.

Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Nice new-ish live page for the Chile miners rescue.

When's Sport moving to the new GVL like News has?

I think the News site is fantastic. The best thing is that it gets better and better as the users get used to all the things they can do with it, and the flexibility is great.

I'm pretty sure that when the Sport team are given the same tools, they'll create a magnificent site.
