I seem to recall Kay was initially fairly scathing of the show, mocking how busy it all was with four presenters and lots of animating graphics (bit rich for someone at Sky News?).

Yes she said something about needing to lie down after watching how 'busy' it was.

That was it! I knew it was something like that, I just couldn't remember how it was phrased. Thanks.

They've really promoted Piers joining the team as Piers joining Susanna. No one is blind so naturally we can all see how GMB has gone GMTV and backtracked on its 4 presenter lead but who expected them to degrade their own package by promotion of only a pair. Surely, if they had any integrity they'd have suggested he was "joining the team for one week only".

Ah, at the end of the day, who cares clearly not be GMB management.

Wasn't Good Morning Britain created for Susanna Reid, ultimately? itv nabs BBC's all-dancing crown-in-the-jewel Breakfast host was all the press seemed to be interested in at the programme's launch. All the other presenters are neither here nor there, let's face it. Susanna is the headline act, as far as itv and the press are concerned. For the first few weeks of GMB's launch, I remember the London Evening Standard couldn't stop plastering Susanna Reid stories all over its pages.

The show wasn't created for Susanna Reid, the media just painted it like it was. The format would have been developed and confirmed before presenters were even considered. Clearly, ITV's idea was bringing in the public's most loved BBC Breakfast presenter to make ITV Breakfast more successful than it was (i.e. Daybreak).

The whole thing was a goldmine for the tabloids; Susanna splitting from her partner made it even more lucrative.

I'd argue that the show isn't all about Susanna; Ben has just as many lines/questions as her.

I'd agree that they shouldn't be promoting Piers and Susanna as just a pair presenting. Ranvir is also there.

Whilst this is all well and good and I accept that I was exaggerating in suggesting that the show was created around Reid, the media and, by extension, itv and their press / publicity departments, have made a very good job of suggesting that Reid is very much the star of the show ever since launch.

I'd disagree, the official ITV press pack for GMB says the opposite. All four presenters are profiled equally, with around 2 pages for each presenter. If Susanna was the main star, there would very little about the others.

I suspect if it was someone other than an Kay it wouldn't be getting commented on.

I don't understand what that means, but she is probably one of the most prominent Sky newsreaders, having been there from the start.

I stand corrected. A good find. So Susanna Reid was not intended as the star of the show. More fool me.

Potentially in a moment of boredom I've been re reading the GMB Launch thread. The majority of people loved it and a few posts referred to how the GMTV style was stale and that the launch moved it in the right direction. Somebody even said that ratings could increase if it stuck and didn't revert back. How unfortunate that many things have reverted back.

Back to present times - how are people expecting Piers Morgan to be? Will he try to be hard hitting maybe with some politicians as guests?

It's a shame and you would have hoped they'd have learned from the last two times, when they launched a new format and then reverted back to GMTV. Breakfast TV should have good competition.

The Big Breakfast was also guilty of doing this too!

I'm going to be a bit bitchy and say until the behind the scenes crew move on it won't change - they work with what they know and don't like going outside of their comfort zones... If the directors and producers moved on it would be a start
