For standard idents, that rules out Paper Cut Out, Glass, Shadow, B&W Copper Cut Out, Water Reflection, Crystal Ball and Balloon, as I can't see them going to the trouble of altering any of those for widescreen, especially if they're only going to be in use for a short while.

It's a shame. Glass may have looked quite nice in broadcast quality.

Not a real airing, sadly.

Nice work there. I only have very vague memories of Glass, so I'd also be curious to see how it would look in broadcast quality today. Looking on youtube, I've noticed that both Glass and Paper Cut Out were sometimes used without music, so that the announcer could just immediately say "This is BBC Two" and then quickly cut to something like a party political broadcast. Seems like a useful device for such situations or if there's a sombre occasion.

We definitely need a bit more variety. Catalyst, Excalibur and Wave (preferably Day) would give a good contrast, along with one or two of the originals. I don't understand why Paint Pot was chosen over Paint either.

This clip appears to indicate that they also used to show just a static frame from the ident too.

It looks more like a fault and it wouldn't play.

Still holding out for Steam on network. We can all but hope.

The idents network have selected so far feature the '2' active and/or moving. I assume this was a deliberate choice - perhaps they think those are the ones that have aged best, or that the less strictly centred '2' works better with the right-aligned logo.

Or just a coincidence, of course.

AFAIK it was indeed a deliberate choice to feature only "active 2" idents. Afraid to say aswell the current on air selection is it for Network for the forseeable....

Surely that would mean that Blade and Firework would be decent candidates.
One particular thing that can be said about these ident's is that the music is a hell of a lot more nicer, and less sterile than the alt-j stuff we were been given until a few months ago, which really proved the jig was up for the window idents.

Ah ok thanks for the confirmation. That would suggest to me the intention was to create a thematically linked "new" set, as opposed to merely celebrating 50 years of BBC2 idents. Wink

Not that I'm complaining and if they throw Kebab back in as they have now done with Paint Pot that's a pretty well-rounded set of idents of this type, perhaps only missing something more dramatic (like Zapper). I thought I read Woodpecker was on the list?

And there's always NI.
