So nice, and we're now even getting special coloured boxes to match the background. These idents are just dying for a centred logo though... but I'm asking far too much at this point

I don't know. The right-hand logo actually sort of works. I think it's because it's rather small and minimalist. I've never liked the boxed logos that've been on BBC Two for almost 13 years now. The change from purple to teal was an improvement but I was disappointed it'd survived at all. This time it's small and not as imposing and its probably the most acceptable version of the box I've seen.
By the way, network really need to add at least a couple more. Swan's quickly losing its novelty value and whilst the Fluffy Dog ident has truly never looked better, it doesn't seem an appropriate ident going into Newsnight whose headline story seems to be invariably about civilian deaths in Gaza these days.
I do think that, because of the centralised placement of the 2, with the majority of these idents, it’s more pleasing to the eye that the logo is also in a centralised position directly underneath, as it was originally. Having said that, I don’t feel as strongly about this as when I first saw them, and it’s good that the logo is nice and small, and is not placed too close to the background visuals. For instance, I always feel that the original placement of the logo with Zapper is too close to the 2-shaped contraption on the wall. The new position bottom-right is now well away from this contraption.
Yes, it is highly strange that Network would think it appropriate to use Fluffy Dog before a serious programme such as Newsnight. Paint Pot would be good, as would Swan, although this is used too frequently, generally.
