Amazed how seamless BBC1 was. Literally announced the moment they went to the news channel simulcast, who prior to that were reporting that "an announcement will be made shortly". Look suspiciously like an 8.30pm embargo but worked very much in the Beeb's favour, they'll be getting huge ratings for this off the back of EastEnders,

Baby born at 4.24pm...announment held back for peak time?

No, it was to allow Kate and William to spend time with their son, according to Tim Ewart on Twitter.

Excellent from BBC One Pres team. They will have been obviously on standby but given the short notice it was seamless - didn't think there would be any news after the standard VO over the EastEnders credits but the long ident after was a bit of a giveaway.

Was quite impressed with the matter-of-fact ITV News coverage until they were cut off!

I doubt the BBC have enough sway with the Palace to have them wait until the end of EastEnders to inform the nation . . .

...they kind of do, or at least the Palace will have been well aware that there would have been a large audience watching BBC1 at 8:30 anyway.

UTV having terrible trouble with adverts! Keep cutting in and out of the ITV news special. Isn't there a manual override?

And this is why we need the ITV News Channel back, but that will never happen in a million years.

Indeed I don't think the 8.30pm announcement was an accident.
