Broke the news on ITV only to be abruptly cut back to Corrie...

Certainly not disputing the ability of Annita McVeigh, but a little surprising that the BBC didn't have a top-name anchor standing ready to break the news on BBC One. The press release was issued just seconds before 2030, so presumably it was a very quick decision to break in to BBC One.

Nice to see Mary Nightingale cut off in her prime...

Ugh. Sky News' Burley led coverage is quite sickly.

One particular highlight:
Burley: "IT'S A BOY!"
Member of public: "I know."

But Sophie clearly is . . .

Just demonstrates that the media really did have no real prior warning of the news being released . . . although Peter Hunt knew to expect an e-mail within a few minutes.

Amazed how seamless BBC1 was. Literally announced the moment they went to the news channel simulcast, who prior to that were reporting that "an announcement will be made shortly". Look suspiciously like an 8.30pm embargo but worked very much in the Beeb's favour, they'll be getting huge ratings for this off the back of EastEnders,

Seems like Sophia was on stand by but the announment came really quick. From some of the split screen coverage we got she was still getting ready as the press statement was made.

I doubt the BBC have enough sway with the Palace to have them wait until the end of EastEnders to inform the nation . . .
