Crashing out into the News Channel with no ident is also odd, sloppy and quite unprecedented.

Yeah, not sure why it couldn't have been introduced with an ident.

I was surprised at the time they ran with The One Show but then thinking about it, I wonder if the overnights had something to do with it? They were very poor so may have swayed the decision - far more people found out in a quick ad break during Corrie than on BBC One.

I think it is also important to commend the BBC's coverage as well. Simon has been on top form, giving us the facts, whilst being full of banter throughout. Jane hill, Joanna gosling were also great outside Buckingham palace. But one person in particular showed just how much she deserved her own slot, and that was Annita McVeigh. Lets hope they'll start using her for more national bulletins now.

Sorry I whole heartedly disagree with you, yes Simon McCoy as had a few comedy moments, but the mess ups last night and tonight just show that ITV won it hands down....

Bbc will always come out on top because they have the advantage of a news channel, which they can just opt-into as they please. BBC coverage, I thought, was on top form. Mistakes are bound happen in a special.

ITV's coverage was good, but they hardly "won it hands down" - I didn't feel I was missing out watching BBC News.

Presumably it was a case of 'shall we go to it now?' 'are they coming out?' and if they'd left it to the last minute then gone to an ident they might have missed the vital moment.

It doesn't really matter though, it wouldn't have been a surprise to the audience and there was a live presenter on hand to make an announcement explaining what was going on.
