I think this needs its own thread, as a future King or Queen should be born today.

It was announced shortly after 7.30 this morning the Duchess of Cambridge had gone into labour. Nicholas Witchell was already reporting outside the hospital on BBC Breakfast at 7.32.

It will be interesting to see how the main channels make the announcement later.

I'm no constitutional expert, but I'm pretty sure that's not how it works Laughing

It could be seventy years before this kid becomes king or queen. Who knows, by then Britain might've seen sense and become a republic.

Kay Burley at the hospital and Demot Murganhan at Buckingham Palace for sky news.

Jane Hill now at Buckingham Palace, with Simon McCoy still outside the hospital for BBC News.

I quite like the ABC News site which has a small video stream of the hospital entrance on every page: http://abcnews.go.com/

The Americans are really going to town on this one!

Kay working that crowd again. She's the best at it!

Quite disappointing Sky don't have their own HD feed from the hospital.

So much coverage on the BBC at the moment, it's beginning to annoy me a little. I wish there was a greater balance between this story and the other top stories. But most of the coverage has been quite good so far. Simon doing his very best with the very little information he has.
