Having Furios which can track around the radius of the desks (which appears to be the plan) will potentially massively improve eyelines

Would you mind explaining what you mean by 'improve eyelines' - isn't that an up/down thing? How does horizontal/radial tracking help that?

Both visualisations were N8? Also, was the area across from the main desk ever used?

Yes, the 1999-2003 version of N8 did frequently use its second, smaller set. As I recall, it was used for some business updates, Business Today and programmes like Agenda, Gate 24, 7 Days, Fast Track etc. Sport used to come from its own tiny set in the nearby sports newsroom, and weather forecasts originally came from a position in between the main and second sets in N8. That was until they moved to the BBC Weather centre and many of them started being pre-recorded at that point, I think.

Here are a couple of images from The TV Room Plus.

To give you an idea of the geography of the set.

That's right - weather forecasts used to come from that blue screen in the background. I loved that set at the time, it was like nothing we'd ever seen before on TV news.

Interesting desk, not the standard design and the only other place I know to have one that shape was Pebble Mill!

New shot of World's studio.

It looks very good, and those back-projection screens don't look 'washed-out', even with all the studio lights on.

They seem to be better than the ones used in N8.

I think it's smart glass rather than back-projection screens?

They're smart glass with an image projected on them from the back.

You would have expected the technology to have improved in that time, to be honest.

Forgive me if I've missed this, but weren't both the World and NC sets supposed to get live newsroom backdrops?

I think Studio E the main one has a live view and a large newswall with backdrops. Not sure if the desk rotates also...

Studio E has the big window whereas C has a big screen. As mentioned in the Broadcasting House thread they had a vote of the BBC World Viewers Panel and it seemed the international audience liked the London skyline best
