That red painted border on the floor is the fire lane though isn't it? So even with a conventional set in place, they couldn't have put it much further back towards the studio walls.
Indeed.........although in contrast, the amount of lost space behind the set in Studio B is far far greater

Interesting video on YouTube featuring Huw Edwards and the BBC News at Six o'clock back in 2000: Interesting to see N6 in a different light and to see how much as changed in 13 years.

It's interesting trying to work out how the different sets have been positioned in the studio over the years as well. It looks like the 1999 set was at a slight angle sitting into the corner of the studio, with the majority of it positioned over the standing up area of the most recent set. Obviously all the back projectors took up much more space than the Barco set did.
It's amazing how small that set looks considering it seemed huge on screen. The other strange thing about that set was its huge figure of 8 desk, the right half of which was hardly ever used. There was no dual presentation in those days, save for the sport presenter during the Saturday late bulletin. I think the odd studio guest used to sit there from time to time, though.
Does anyone else remember when they stuck a big rectangular image of the World Trade Centre and US flag on the cream wall in the wake of the 9/11 attacks? I seem to recall it stayed visible for quite a while afterwards.
