Hmm, the the text on Tent Beach and Mirror does look a bit unsteady...The former looks the worse of the two.
If the rendered '4' in the Channel 4 symbols briefly wobbled about a bit, imagine how dodgy they would look... However those use, and indeed require, precise motion tracking from reference points. I'm not certain if that method is being used poorly here, or just not at all.
Ultimately though, I think it's just a poor idea in itself - even if this had been a bit more skilfully implemented, the text just doesn't look particularly nice plastered over the symbols in this way, and at that size. It's better without (or alternatively, in the previous style of appearing inside the logo box?).
Fortunately, this is another bit of network tinkering that can be swiftly avoided in the Nations if you like. Although not for the rest of tonight - looks like they opted-in just now...

And that's all I've got because then this happened. Which is far more interesting.

I think my BBC Selector's on the blink.

The October 2008 update that lasted one 6am junction?
Not really, from the snippets posted here and the tidbits heard elsewhere, the pres around the idents was an unusable mess (what *I think* was a sample endboard was leaked on a programme website; it was quite something, with a tiny, centred, tilted, flatly animated "2" window, programme info squeezed underneath and then the BBC logo under that). The colour scheme was even more bizarre than what they threw up 8 months later.
And the boxless system was entirely useless for the nations who, TVF legend has it, ended up with a huge, inexplicably cyan box, which overlapped the "2" hideously.
The timeline of what happened next I'm not exactly sure about. Were branding agency Vincent involved from the start or brought in to try to rescue the mess? Why was the eventual end product such a cobbled together mishmash of their ideas? Why did no-one stop to wonder if it was in any way an improvement on what it was replacing?
Why is it still on air? How have we reached a point where a simple text tag can't even be added without hilarity ensuing? ughhhhhhh.
Did we ever get to the bottom of why those sans-box idents were introduced and then removed within the space of an evening?

*Positive Thinking* One of those rare occasions when the trail style doesn't look embarrassingly ill-thought out - when something, gasp,
colour complementary
is placed underneath:

...and then, of course, this appears. No, I am not ready to get over this.

I don't know if this seems significant but in September I captured the BBC Two Wales Mirror Ident. It may seem minor but look...

The logo appears at the beginning but disappears in the middle of the ident.
