Much as I like your showreel Phillip, I would vote for Steve Hamilton from Scottish with whom I grew up with.
My all time favourite was when STV (as was) pulled the plug on a foriegn cartoon. Steve, in vision, announced, 'Well now on STV something a little different. We usually bring you 'The Adventures of the Blue Knight', but lets face it kids it was like watching paint dry.....'

Mark Lipscomb - THE voice of ITV1, Carlton London Announcer and Weekend News Reader on Central News South (previously announcer with Thames).
Great voice and nice chap too.
If there were a category for best female announcer - it would have to be Trish Bertram - (LWT) the weekend voice, deep and sexy

Just to make it clear, this is not a male announcer poll it's an announcer poll. Just say who and why, male or female, venus or Mars, in-vision or out of vision.
Remember the big hair of the early 80's, the big ear rings of the late 80's, the big velvet bow ties of the late 70's.
Do you also remember when they stopped making Thunderbirds there was a sudden in flux of new in-vision announcers.....spooky?

So you've cast Trish aside now?
Gosh and crikey! Have you no heart, Sir?
My 'tops' Clare Sturgess Sky One
Michael St John former HTV West in-vision 1980's
Clare - bright, fun 'I'm watching too' approach.
Michael - The Stingray viewing experience. Do you remeber how Stingray opened? 'Anything can happen in the next five minutes!'

My vote would have to go to the LWT evening crew.
They both sound like they have great fun.
I think (after looking at this site) that their names are Trish and Glen.
At least they vary what they say, unlike many announcers around the network I could mention.
Great idea Banksey.

BBC In the 70s/80s David Allen - THE voice of BBC2 - comfortable and reassuring like a favourite pair of slippers, - his smooth style can be heard these days on Carlton London
LWT in the 70s /80s - Peter Lewis! The big voice that made the station sound grand and important - you just knew the weekend was here!
C4 past - Johhny Briggs - witty scripts and great voice (Mr Voiceover these days) and Sean Bolger - great voice, equally good scripts - Jane Copland - silky smooth creamy voice sounds like purring -
C4 present - Gary Terzza - comfortable , sounds like a real person not an announcer, friendly and fun (been there for yrs)
LWT - Glen Thompsett - friendly, easygoing and fun
Carlton - Mark Lipscomb -The voice for the big occasions/events - has gravitas
C5 - Bill Buckley - breaks all the rules- fun and quirky - doesn't sound like anyone else!
Impossible to just pick one!

This is a bit like the wife who buys her husband TWO ties for Christmas, just so she can say 'And what's wrong with the OTHER one?' when he puts one on.
I think, from the many canvassing notices in my e-mail inbox this morning, that I'm going to be in trouble here, WHATEVER I say.
I shall therefore slightly side-step the issue and go back to MY era, by voting for Sylvia Peters.

I'm afraid I don't know many announcers names.
I do however like Chris Langmore from Carlton Westcountry, just becuase I liked his show on Late Night South West on BBC Radio Devon / Cornwall.
Seems like a nice bloke, not sure why he disappeared from the radio though. Although he was sometimes a bit 'close to the edge' for the normal doddery people that listen to BBC local radio in the South West

Hey Sir! That's not fair. I got told off for mentioning more than one!
Right then ........
BBC - Fav announcers from 70's & 80's - Bruce Hammil (currently the voice on the radio station where I work) and David Allan. Today it has to be Dan Austin
)
ATV - 70's - Peter Tomlinson and Su Evans
Central - Gary Terzza (in-vision) and loved the voice of Allan Sherwin - Carlton Central - Andy Marriott.
Channel 4 - Again agree with Mr Terzza
Channel 5 - Gotta be Mr Buckley
Out of Region Announcer (70's & 80's) - Colin Weston (Granada) and Paul Lavers (Anglia).
Out of Region Announcer (Today) - Glen Thompsett, Trish Bertram, Graham Bannerman
But I stick by original posting of Mark Lipscomb as best UK Announcer.
There you go Mr Banks na na na na naaaaaa! <GRIN>
Steve (facing the wall in disgrace)
