I couldn't agree more. Colin Weston was a gem! It was a shame programmes interrupted him! A real announcer with a sence of fun about him. He loved his work and was saddened when all Granada announcements went to Leeds. I think he was offered a post there ( out of vision ) but declined. He now feels all GMG continuity has gone well down hill. Here Here say I.
With regards Jim Pope, another lovely guy with quite a dry sence of humour. Had a passion for Waggonwheels ( biscuits ). In the early 80's I went to see the presentation dept at Granada and was allowed to sit in the announcers seat in frot of camera ( whilst off air of course ). Graham James was on duty and was really nice to me. Opening a drawer in the desk was a small supply of Waggonwheels. ' Jims favourite ' he said.
Jim was of course the voice over for University Challenge. Very very sadly, Jim died last November.
Charles Foster? Well probably the most famous Granada announcer. Also an actor, married to actress Meg Johnson from Corrie and Brookside. Also did voice overs for some quiz programmes and currently some tv ads ( including ' Sharps half price winter sale ' ).
Also Beverley Ashworth. Again good fun with a brilliant sence of humour. I think she now has her own voice over company.
Why o why can characters like these not be here anymore - invision?
