Ger - surely you have to add BBC Wales : Ilisa Factor

Smile

I'm sure she's moonlighting voicing network trails you know - there is a voice on BBC One England that sounds just like Ilisa...

I had to put Daloni, as hers was the voice I grew up with Smile

I think we should start up a list of 'new blood' announcers.
My vote would have to go to Nick Harvey who makes a regular appearance on this site. I would imagine he has clarity, personality and everything needed to be a GOOD TV announcer!!
So Nick, get your cans ready, pull your mike muff off and start scripting those quirky links.

As far as voting is concerned, here's my fav list:

Trish Bertram (LWT)
Graham Bannerman (Carlton London)
Andy Marriott (LWT & Central/Carlton)
Glen Thompsett (LWT)
Stewart White (Ex Central now at BBC Look East)

Whatever happened to Mike Cooper. Now there's a bloke with a great voice!!!

>'well bugger me slowly'
Actually the phrase is 'Well Bugger me gently' and it was said by Lizzie.

The worst C5 announcer for Prisoner was Stuart McWilliam - he insisted on pretending he actually knew what he was talking about and starting talking about the series in a very authoritive tone but making huge blunders along the way. It's a very dangerous thing for an announcer to do to talk about a cult series which is on in the middle on the night and only likely to be watched by an audience who allready know it inside out and who will be scrutinising any comments made on it.

I agree- Stewart McWilliam was without doubt an AWFUL announcer, and went so far as to quote storylines from the past with the wrong character names. I for one was secretly hoping Bill Buckley would be brought back for the finale- but alas no.http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/confused.gif

Anyway- by far my favourite announcers of all time are:

Steve Hamilton- STV (great voice and quirky sense of humour)
Paul Coia (STV & The 1st voice of Channel 4)
Keith Harrison (LWT and later Channel 4)

In reply to Bladonontyne:
I couldn't agree more. Colin Weston was a gem! It was a shame programmes interrupted him! A real announcer with a sence of fun about him. He loved his work and was saddened when all Granada announcements went to Leeds. I think he was offered a post there ( out of vision ) but declined. He now feels all GMG continuity has gone well down hill. Here Here say I.

With regards Jim Pope, another lovely guy with quite a dry sence of humour. Had a passion for Waggonwheels ( biscuits ). In the early 80's I went to see the presentation dept at Granada and was allowed to sit in the announcers seat in frot of camera ( whilst off air of course ). Graham James was on duty and was really nice to me. Opening a drawer in the desk was a small supply of Waggonwheels. ' Jims favourite ' he said.
Jim was of course the voice over for University Challenge. Very very sadly, Jim died last November.

Charles Foster? Well probably the most famous Granada announcer. Also an actor, married to actress Meg Johnson from Corrie and Brookside. Also did voice overs for some quiz programmes and currently some tv ads ( including ' Sharps half price winter sale ' ).

Also Beverley Ashworth. Again good fun with a brilliant sence of humour. I think she now has her own voice over company.

Why o why can characters like these not be here anymore - invision? Sad

Erm, you obviously haven't been paying too much attention cheeseboard Wink Kyle was one of the announcers I mentioned.

I'm most terribly, terribly sorry. Please accept my deepest and most humble apologies. Sad

Well if that's the way you want to take a jokey remark (complete with smiley) then that's fine. No offence was intended though...

None taken - simply returning your jokey remark with a jokey remark! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Na Daloni Roberts ydy fenw hi, she retired about 3 years ago, just after I started (such is my effect!). Ilisa has the huskey voice. If Jamez didn't have such girly fits all the time, I would show you a file of hers on IDENTZ http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/cheesy.gif

Ti'n gwybod fy ffrind Stuart Beckley? Yn prifysgol gyda ti, mae e'n gweithio yn JD Wetherspoons, yn y ganol y dre. Siarad i e, achos mae e'n hoffi teledu a radio hefyd! 'Anorak fawr' gyda fi! Smile

How about Philip Elsmore. He was both the first and last ever voice to be heard on Thames. ( I think he has gone back to acting now, I saw him once on Eastenders. He played a magistrate and if you'd blinked you'd have missed him). Peter Marshall was good too, he was also on Thames for a long time. And ABC, ATV and HTV. He also co-hosted Miss World back in the eighties. Somebody mentioned David Hamilton a while back. I remember him when I was a kid and yes, he was a nutter! Then there was Judie Spiers in TSW, another nutter. She was funny. She could be very sarcastic about the programmes and the people on them. Somtimes she would host Gus Hunneybun's magic birthdays and would always slap the puppet round the back of it's head. This would upset the kids and they'd get their mums to complain. Judie would read these letters out on air and then say. But-I -don't- hit-you-do-I-Gus? Hitting it round the head with each word.
I think Stuart Hall used to be an anouncer on Central. I never actually heard him but I bet he was great. Then there was Kieth Martin on TVS. He was very excentic. At closedown, when the screen had gone blank for the last time he would put on a comedy voice and start tellling Knock Knock jokes to remind you to switch off your set. The jokes were always Closedown related and alway awful. It was good though.
