One of the best announcers in my opinion is the man who does all the Local Trailers for YTV/TTTV & Granada and also does weekend continuity on ITV Nightime
He used to do continuity announcements on YTV/TTTV/GRA and one of Asa's TV Home Downloads features a very good announcement
Senario: 'The Local' - Regional programme broadcast live from 'The Woolpack' at YTV Studios
Announcement:
'Lively live debate now on Yorkshire as we join Christa Ackroyd and Mike Morris for a swift half...........hour, down at the local'
Nick Harvey on 12:48 pm on Jan. 10, 2002
This is a bit like the wife who buys her husband TWO ties for Christmas, just so she can say 'And what's wrong with the OTHER one?' when he puts one on.
I think, from the many canvassing notices in my e-mail inbox this morning, that I'm going to be in trouble here, WHATEVER I say.
I shall therefore slightly side-step the issue and go back to MY era, by voting for Sylvia Peters.
Jasmine Bligh has to be the mistress... The original, and thus the standards setter...
'This is the BBC Television station at Alexandra Palace'
Hey, Noggin, it's VERY rare for me to be able to say this, so indulge me while I do.............
She was before my time!
ST
Southern Television
Brian Nissen and Christopher Robbie were the two first class announcers from Southern and TVS in days gone by from the era of the immaculate Peter Lewis on both LWT & HTV West.
Don't forget the hilarious Keith Martin and Katie Glass from Anglia, what a voice.
These days the announcers rarely have enough time to say much more than, 'You're watching...', but Mark and Trish from Carlton London & LWT always keep us informed with the right turn of phrase and sound as though they watch the programmes and know what they're talking about.
Paul Veysey at Central can always be relied upon for the odd gem like into Club Reps tonight when he advised of the adult content by saying..'That's a warning!'
There are few who could do a better job than Mike Prince of Central/ATV, a consummate professional, never lost for words.
I can't believe nobody's mentioned the legendary Redvers Kyle - best known for Associated Rediffusion and then Yorkshire. Had the pleasure of meeting him once. Nice guy.
Erm, you obviously haven't been paying too much attention cheeseboard Kyle was one of the announcers I mentioned. His voice used to scare me as a kid when I went to Harrogate to see relations but he was undeniably a good announcer.
I used to think that guy that was on Central was really clear and professional to listen to, although I haven't heard him for about 2 years now. I don't know where he's gone. He used to emphasize 'NOW on Central...' and used to say 'At the heart of the Independant television network, this is Central ITV' before the national news. But I don't know where he is now. Carlton Central could do with him back in my opinion...he was the voice of Central. If anybody knows what his name is, it'll be nice to know!
