Goodness Steve -
I'd forgotten Bruce Hammal!!!!  mega voice ! Ex BBC, (Superchannel with Trish B ) and ofcourse The Voice of SKY (well promos at any rate)

would also mention from BSB  (pre Sky ofcourse)
Alex Lester - for his quirky scripts on Galaxy (radio 2 star these days)
and Keith Butler for just being mad (still on capital radio overnights these days )- a complete maverick

Also a special mention  for Andy Marriott for coming up with the unexpected - another continuity maverick

Not many women mentioned - are men better? Now there's a question!

My favourites:

Marcus Bentley - he did Big Brother and I heard him doing v/o on C4 the other week before Bewitched - was expecting him to say 'Samantha and Darrin are called to the diary room' (!)

Keiron Elliot - chirpy Scots bloke off Challenge TV and Bravo

Lucy Irving - Dani Behr soundalike whose credits include Global E-Missions and E4

Mark Warr - of Tyne Tees news, smooth voice I'm sure I've heard on other TV v/o - one of the smoothest voices in the biz

and the guy who does Paramount (evenings) and Sky Movies - don't know his name though. - I've also heard him on ads for Five Live (ads played on Radio 1)

the deep voiced guy at central, su evans (central), and dean liddeott (bbc one/two/knowledge)

for more personality announcing:
that funny guy on ch5, and andy marriot (central)

I'd have to say Roger Shaw. Both authoritive and friendly, he had the best balance of all announcers in that he could sound deadly serious when he had to and could also put a lot of fun in his announcements which didn't seem forced.

>I do however like Chris Langmore from Carlton Westcountry,
Chris Langmore actually mentioned his name on air the other day, that's after being welcomed to prime time from 'the team here in Plymouth' Westcountry is becoming almost TSW-like in it's friendly announcing these days.

My goodness, weird that Marcus' name has come up. I see he's doing a new quiz show, details at Waveguide

I like 1 or 2 of the BBC Wales announcers but not sure of names, and there are so many of them on there I get confused, and I like the regular HTV Wales male announcer, again not sure of name.

If I can get names I will post again!

It's gotta be Bill Buckley off Channel 5. I remember one time, before Lexx I think, he said in his very serious voice something along the lines of 'The crew of Lexx wake up from 100 years of unconsciousness' or something, before saying in a loud, extremely camp voice 'Blimey, I bet they fancy a cup of tea then'.

I also liked the way he voiceovered at the end of Prisoner Cell Block H once, in an episode where one of the prisoners said 'well bugger me slowly' about something, which Bill picked up on. He said afterwards 'Well bugger me slowly if Prisoner Cell Block H isn't back tomorrow night' or something. Hilarious!

So whos the new guy (I assume!) on BBC One continuity? Is he on for the rest of the night as I just caught the Neighbours junction?

Cheers, Asa

Is that announcer with the very deep voice who's been announcing on BBC1 for as long as I can remember still about? He was the last of the 'old brigade', and I think his name's Peter Brooke. (Not so long ago, I heard him announce BBC1 as BBC2 - strange mistake to make for someone who'd been there so long!)

The other announcer whose name sticks in my mind is BBC2's David Allan. They were both from the days when all their announcers sounded very distinctly 'BBC'.

The best announcers. Well as everyone else has mentioned a number of names here are my nominations.

Hard choice for in vision Men. They have to be Brian Nissen of Southern and Peter Lewis ex of LWT

Females. Christine Webber of EX Anglia/Southern and Gill Hewitt. Ex Southern.

Out of Vision. These days. The Carlton London guy who was on last night. Can't remember his name?? and Channel 5's Bill Buckley.

But if we are heading towards ONE ITV, who would the announcers be.????Thats a hard one;)
