Yeah because I'm sure Sue who is one of the main presenters of the Olympics

As is John Inverdale of course. .

One of the main presnters?? er no he isn't. He wasn't even included in the presenter announcement last year. Very much on the B team.

He's anchoring the flagship sport - athletics, and usually does the rowing too.

He's arguably ahead of Sue Barkers afternoon job.

Yes, I believe Des Lynham may have done that athletics role in the past?

Indeed he did. In fact, look back 20 years to Barcelona 1992, and the BBC really only had two presenters - Steve Rider did 0800-1700, and Des did 1700 onwards. I think Helen Rollason popped up here and there as well.

The BBC have definitely split their shifts too thinly on BBC1 - why on earth they've given Mishal Husain one I don't know. IMO Breakfast, Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Highlights is fine (that's what C4 are doing) - but the BBC seem to have two morning and two afternoon shifts.

. . . plus different presenters on different days in the late morning/afternoon slots. I agree, it does seem a bit messy.

0600-0900 Breakfast (including Hazel Irvine)
0900-1300 Hazel Irvine (with John Inverdale at rowing, Jonathan Edwards at athletics, Sharron Davies at swimming)
1300-1800 Jake Humphrey & Clare Balding (with Jill Douglas at cycling, Gabby Logan at gymnastics, Balding at equestrian when necessary)
1800-2230 Sue Barker (with John Inverdale at athletics, Clare Balding at swimming)
2235-0000 Gabby Logan & Gary Lineker

. . . would have done lovely. (sorry, off-topic fantasy rota-creeping).

I think Gary Linker should be in that primetime position, he is still the big name BBC Sport has in it's arsenal and it is in essence just a linking role that needs a solid presenter which Lineker is.

We've turned into a rota thread. Sad

The short shifts are strange when you consider they will be linking to another team at the venue for half an hour/an hour at a time. Sue Barker does the same job at Wimbledon for 8 hours!

It comes down a lot to the fact BBC Sport has too many presenters and they feel they need to use everyone.

Makes sense if they can get away with it as it covers the hosts lower thirds rather than just sitting on top of them.

Fantastic darting around the courts tonight. Picking action at whim. Superb direction esp with Paul-Henri Mathieu & John Isner deadlocked 12-12 in the final set of their second round match.
