I think on Middle Saturday they should always schedule Wimbledon on BBC1 until 8pm.

By this time of year Saturday night schedules are always weak, so removing the normal schedule for one week wouldn't be a problem and the Saturday is the first day when many people get the chance to see a decent amount of tennis, especially as Middle Sunday is a day off

Robin Hood should therefore have started a week earlier to accommodate this as would any other show that would happen to be on next year

If this was pre-planned, the regional news would be scheduled after the late news like they sometimes do when other sports are scheduled

That's just common sense though - something which doesn't seem to be a requirement to be a BBC scheduler.

To say this practice makes my blood boil is a massive understatement. We in England would not be able to get the regional news if it were moved to BBC2 and probably never will do - in my case, digital is far superior and that'll be the only choice anyway soon.

There is no need whatsoever for any event, no matter how major, to be on BBC1 only. BBC2 is equally obtainable as BBC1.

Exactly - but it seems people really are that stupid. The other night Murray lost a couple of million viewers in his transfer to BBC2.

If they really wanted too, the BBC could accommodate Wimbledon on BBC1 on weekday evenings - they manage to cope with the football kicking off at 5pm.

P.S. Has Roger Mosey's reign as head of sport now ended? Unfortunately there has been no posts for weeks on the Sport Editors blogs - in previous years they always posted a few around Wimbledon, which inevitably would fill with complaints about the channel switching.

There is no need whatsoever for any event, no matter how major, to be on BBC1 only. BBC2 is equally obtainable as BBC1. I hate that BBC1 flagship channel b******s - even more so when that ethos is used at the expense of local news. I realise this is an old debate, but I cannot believe that as DSO becomes ever closer the BBC still think that this is acceptable.

Except that shows on BBC One DO still get higher audiences in general. Moving the Murray match from BBC Two to BBC One would undoubtedly increase its audience - and that is why they do it... People are more likely to watch if it is on BBC One, as it is a more habitually viewed channel.

Agreed Noggin, the preponderance of people to not venture beyond the 1 and 3 button and their digital successors still exists, regardless of the logic not so to do. Not withstanding that that, a successful saturday ratings win for BBC ONE over ITV has to be attractive to the Corporation and as such would help justify the cost of the rights for the Tournament.

I do agree with the whole BBC One 'prominence' argument - Saturday night, however, was particularly messy with the whole Robin Hood problem, which was even more complicated here in NI, where it ended up running right against Casualty.

However, what I don't accept is the justification of moving regional news to BBC Two during the week. Viewers have come to expect 30 minutes of regional news on BBC One at 6.30pm - with sub-opts and all. In this day in age, asking English viewers to switch back to analogue to watch their own regional news magazine is beyond daft. Plus the fact that some areas will not even receive any local news.

Moving Wimbledon to BBC One at 7.00pm - fair enough. That's where 'prime time' begins for most viewers, and the point from which they are likely to pick up most viewers - either joining One, or coming over from Two.

But what happens on BBC One at 8.00pm on Monday? Are BBC One viewers 'intelligent' enough to switch to BBC Two for EastEnders? Its a similar logic.

One thing to note though - this culture of putting British players in prime time is actually a relatively recent move. Go back seven or eight years ago when Henman and Rusedski were at their prime, and matches were regularly scheduled earlier in the day. And when they were played in the evening, the first time I can ever remember a match being moved to BBC One (final-excepted) was the Henman SEMI-FINAL in 2001 (correct me if I'm wrong).

I wonder if there is an alternative set of titles in case it becomes "The Two Show"

Worse than that, last year they cancelled an edition of The One Show less than half an hour before it was due to start and then showed a filler programme on BBC Two at 7pm. If the tennis must move to BBC One then why can't they just do a straight swap so the BBC One programmes end up on BBC Two?

... looks like a 4.30 start for Murray tonight, which will almost certainly go upto and beyond 6pm and the news block will be hit. It'll be unfortunate (and bad news for British Tennis fans) if it goes to 8pm. With the PM's programme announcement due in the HoC the fate of the Six will be interesting. I have a feeling that tonight we could see a Murray bounce to BBC TWO after all.

EDIT

Maybe the Women's match wont be over so soon afterall, seems that a match is being made of it.

... and as I thought would happen, the uncovered courts get the players out first.

Murray likely to start in the 6pm hour now, so considering the regional news issue he'll almost definitely start on BBC2. If they do switch him, hopefully they do it at 7pm - although knowing the BBC they'll keep it on BBC2 till 7.30pm, switch to BBC1 for half an hour, and then switch back so EastEnders keeps running.

This perhaps just applies to BBC Scotland, as Andy Murray is Scottish after all, but I definitely heard Catriona Shearer say on Lunchtime Reporting Scotland that 'the next news is on BBC Two at 6.30pm, goodbye for now'.

Does that mean it was already planned? I checked the EPG and it shows no sign of such a thing!

..... and so the Six will go out on BBC ONE. Murray match not yet started we'll see how it pans out now.
