According to blog posts, since 2008 but not really been released to the great unwashed up until sometime late last year.
Here, your very own BBC URL QR code generator, if you like that sort of thing.

New breaking news graphic for the sports website...

EDIT @ 14:11: Looks like the sport site is now using the white masthead instead of the black one.

That's probably a little dangerous. The BBC logo could reassure people they are following a BBC link but there is nothing stopping people generating a QR code to anywhere with a BBC logo within it.

The generator will only work with BBC URLs - give it a try - anything but bbc.co.uk just says invalid URL.
In the same way that only BBC URLs can be shortened to bbc.in by Bit.LY

QR Codes are an open standard. Anyone with the time and the specification can make them.
Here is the specification... http://raidenii.net/files/datasheets/misc/qr_code.pdf if you can find the time, you can make a QR code with a BBC logo.
In the same way that only BBC URLs can be shortened to bbc.in by Bit.LY
That is different, bbc.in requires a server under the BBC's control to redirect you to a URL and it obviously won't redirect you to a non-bbc URL. With QR codes, once you have created it you can do whatever you want with it without the BBC being able to validate or revoke it.
EDIT: Turns out you don't need as much time as I first thought. Would the BBC really want to put their name to something like this?

The Sport header has been tweaked further so that the yellow no longer stretches across the entire page.

And the BBC header appears to be white all the time now, no change on roll-over, with the exception of the F1 page, as that has a black background anyway, so that makes sense. It also appears that video no longer plays automatically on the Sportsday Live page, which was another cause for complaint.
One tiny tweak that I would like is making sure that the video/audio logos are correct on the 'Most Popular Video and Audio' list next to any video clip. At present they all display the video play sign, rather than the audio sign, unlike the links elsewhere on the website.
But, I like the changes today - the BBC listening to some feedback.

Some more details on the tweaks:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2012/02/bbc_sport_olympic_page_launch.html
Good:
- The header doesn't have the annoying highlight effect on rollover anymore.
- Videos don't autoplay anymore.
Bad:
- The yellow header doesn't go all the way across the page anymore and looks worse for it in my opinion.
- The background on the F1 site is still black so doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the site, and the annoying highlight effect is still on that page for the menu.
- Rugby U and Rugby L in the menu instead of the full names.

The header changing colour wasn't a fault so I am not sure why the BBC are claiming it was one. It was a part of the design that wasn't very popular. They could at least just say that the idea was stupid instead of glossing over their mistakes.

Agree with you on the Good points, but disagree with the Bad. I like the new header design, looks a lot neater. The background on the F1 site was always black to make it look more 'technological' I suppose, and I'm glad that this distinction has been made. The header staying black with the rollover effect makes perfect sense in this context. Is the Rugby naming a resolution thing?
