Anybody see the new look Calendar this morning in GMTV then? I didn't as I couldn't be arsed to drag myself out of the bed before 9.30. I'm gonna cheak out the 10.55ish update, to see what the music and things are like. I'll be so dissapionted if theres no big pink fluffy things dangling from the celing.
Caught the new look at 0830ish. Very good. Looks classy with red/orange, blue and maroon. Good use of graphics. YTV has pulled out all the stops for this. A big play on Duncan Wood presenting tonight.
Now, i've very rarely watched GMTV so I don't know much about him (unlike Mike Morris) but for all this hype and publicity he's either the messiah or the best presenter since sliced bread!
I hope it all goes well. Calendar is still acres better than the competition, it would be a shame to see this new presenter do it an injustice.
I see yorkshiretv.com/news has been updated with the new look, well new banner anyway. Duncans profile hasn't been added and the profile pictures are still in the old Calendar style.
Well I'm not at home at the moment so I haven't seen the 10.56am, but here is what happened during GMTV..
- New red/orange/blue backdrop,so it looks like the logo in the promo is actually the new look
- Viewers across the country were able to see the new backdrop (without Calendar News logo) at 8.05pm on GMTV as they did an interview with that ambulance man from Leeds in one of the Calendar broomcupboards
- No travel graphics were used during the 6.35 and 7.05 but a new look one appeared by the 8.10 edition
Well erm what can I say, what was it ment to be? Looked like a load of paper clpis to me, though it all happened so fast I could be mistaken. The backgrounds nice with the moniter thingys on the right, as for the colour scheme, I'm not too keen on it myself. The music sounds quite good, but it's difficult to tell from the short version. The sports graphics were nice though. I think we'll just have to wait until 6 tonight before we can really pass judgment.
Well so far, the short sting of the music sounded quite nice, but again I'm not sure on the colour scheme. The old scheme was quite light and cold, wheras this is the complete opposite, a bit too red/orange for my liking.
And why do we have to have the images of those monitors behind the presenter, would it be too much to ask to put some images of the region in there ie. the Humber Bridge for the East ?
But like you say, until we've seen the main studio and the main programme, I'll reserve judgement.
As a Tyne Tees viewer, i find this Duncan Wood hype all very amusing. He was well known in the region for being a hopeless Sports News bloke when he presented The Tyne Tees Match. He also lost out to Andy Friend in the contest to succeed Paul Frost when he quit.

Hmmm, the music sounds really nice, well the short burst we've heard so far (the old theme is in there somewhere).
Nice use of graphics relating to the story in the background of the CSO studio. But why is Christine presenting the lunchtime bulletin from the broom cupboard ? Are they saving the studio until 6pm ?
Calendar's new graphics are absolutely terrible - a red to blue gradient with no texture? Astons in the style of BBC News? They are really nasty. Look like they've been done on PowerPoint.
