They should just simulcast anything in true HD on BBC Two and show miscellaneous HD shows when BBC Two aren't showing an HD programme. I know that's pretty much what's happening now with the likes of Top Gear, but Eggheads only occasionally appears on BBC HD.

There is no clear advantage of this. I really fail to see the sense behind this measure. If you think of Family Guy in HD, as well as the series of 'Extraordinary Me' documentaries running this week on BBC Three, these attract a large, young audience who surely care about whether programmes are shown in HD.

They couldn't give a monkey's whether those shows are in HD, our two lads watch everything on fuzzovision i-player, and so do all their friends !

What about the Eurovision semi finals / Glasto coverage?

It's a stupid idea. Yes there currently are clashes but scheduling better would sort that out, rather than having a whole simulcast of BBC Two with not all programming in SD. .

SD picture quality is dire, far better to have SD upscalled as it is on BBC 1, ITV 1, and C4.

I would have liked the addition of BBC Two HD to BBC HD, not as a replacement.

Well I'm sure VM have the bandwidth for that, but DTT and D-Sat don't (without removing the vast amounts of crap channels on those platforms).

I was more along the lines of thinking that BBC Two HD would replace BBC HD on Freeview for the meantime, with BBC HD showing BBC3/4 HD content on time as usual and BBC Two HD opting out at a later date in the morning.

You'll probably have to do without out those for at least a year or two.

For Glastonbury BBC HD tended (with the odd exception) to just show the BBC 2 programmes (and not even all of those), however last weekend there was 'T In The Park' all on BBC 3 and simulcast on BBC HD for the first time. Theres been some good BBC 4 programmes that have been shown in HD, as well as fairly popular BBC 3 simulcasts like 'Doctor Who Confidential'. Then there is the comment - made at the time BBC 1 HD launched - that HD programmes from 'the nations' would be shown on BBC HD.

As an HD viewer is been like having an extra BBC channel- a chance to record programmes I might have missed on their first BBC 1 or 2 outings, sometimes an alternative choice of viewing- I'll miss its hodge podge schedule!

It is a case of one step forward (all BBC 2 programmes made in HD at the same time as the SD version) but one step back (loosing HD content from BBC 3, 4 and elsewhere). I could see this happening in the long term, but hoped that when BBC 2 HD launched BBC HD would continue as a mixture of BBC 3, BBC 4, childrens and some repeats. I suspect it'll be a good while before we see any more BBC HD channels- they're rather tied down by the 'platform neutrality' stance with the lack of space on Freeview.

So basically the specialist HD controllers are being sacked.

Though that went out of the window with interactive content for us Freeview folk.

Phew, the thought of having to wait for a repeat of Being Human to see it in HD next year was worrying!

The BBC are one of the better broadcasters of SD, broadcasting at 720x576, the HD is only x2 better.

BBC SD broadcasts are the least worst for quality, but they fall short of what should be acceptable IMHO, it's not just resolution that's important, it's bit rate too.

Explain your mathematics, how you manage to conclude that 'HD' is only 'twice as good' as SD ?!
