I noticed in these days that they present more and more from the main desk , earlier the 15 minute wraps were presented from the isle

Stephen Dixon clearly doesn't like presenting from the island, maybe he is rubbing off on other presenters?

As for the programme changes, I am utterly astonished that they are dropping the Live at Five name. I barely ever watch Sky News in the day now, but I do dip into Live at Five very occasionally and it's one of the better strands on the channel along with Sunrise and Saturday Live.

As for Afternoon Live, it's not the name of the programme they want to worry about but the presenter.

It might have just been the camera angle but I did not see the island at the top of Sky News at ten, You can usually see it in the background

Edit: Just watched it back and the Island is not there

It looks like sportsline is coming from the main desk tonight

sky news at 1 am is recorded nevertheless the voiceover says:" live from the sky news centre...

They replayed that until 6am even though Gamal said it was midnight at the top of each hour it was still Live from the Sky News centre

Interesting - could this be the end of standing up on what was 'Afternoon Live' too? Sunrise and some reports use the video wall, but not at the island, and as has been said, it seems that most programmes are now at the desk.

So one presenting position is being eliminated. Why? I thought one of the things people liked most about Sky News was the fluidity of the presentation and the fact that it varied through the day, making as full a use as possible of the studio and its resources. Now what competitive edge has it got over BBC News? Presenters flying solo instead of in pairs? Not much of an edge if you ask me!

Now that is interesting at 2am the island was there but only the base of it, The desk area Kay stands at for Afternoon live and the other bit at the back are missing

Sky News Sunrise might be keeping it's name but the voice over just said This is Sky News with Mark Longhurst

As expected the 9am hour is now just a standard Sky News bulletin with Charlotte presenting from the main desk, with the gallery as the backdrop.

I can see the logic behind making the schedule a bit more uniformed but I would rather they were more flexible about the presenters using the newswall and other parts of the studio.

Hard to see the point of the island now that it appears the desk has been removed. Admittedly it was a horrendously designed piece of studio furniture but it is surely going to look very weird for whoever is using the island if they are just standing on bare rectangle - perhaps it will be used for business updates with the reporter standing on the island rather than the newswall.

Programme name wise I am not too fussed about losing 'The Live Desk' or 'Afternoon Live' titles but it seems mad to drop the 'Live at Five' branding after all these years.

Has anyone got any images of the deskless island, or has it just not been shown yet?
I wonder why Sky has said nothing about the schedule change. It's a pretty big change to rename nearly every programme slot.

EDIT: Just saw the island at the 11am TOTH, and it has completely gone. It's just the base now. Was the weather on Sunrise this morning from the newswall?

I think they may have just changed the camera angle slightly on the newsroom background rather than removing the red bits, they still seem to be there on the very edge of the screen.

I think they should put the desks and people in the island area like before they remodeled the set. The empty space is just useless now.
