Also a good comparison of The Day Today/Brass Eye to the ITV News Channel
I expect someone could whip up a Sky News one in a couple of minutes - just set record for half an hour and you've got all that stuff.
In the War Clip I think that Chris Morris reminds me a bit of Adam Boulton, I also like the fact that they cut to the weather which they all do in Breaking News. Sylvester's Weather to me looks more useful than ITV/C4/C5 or Sky's Weather Forecast.
Worzel, I think you're right. They need to find that balance and stick to it.
I think if they went back to the old Sky News Today (Martin & Julie c.2002 era) for at least part of the day, then they'd be on the right lines. They got the balance completely right back then, and it was the show that led to the innovations of the 2005 relaunch.
I still don't understand why they axed all of the distinctive brandings they had too- i.e. Live at Five, Afternoon Live etc. Ok, so it's just a name, but that also varied things up a bit. At least back then you knew who you were going to get reading the news and when - nowadays it seems to often be a pick and mix of rent-a-presenters who just don't have the gravitas needed at times.
I think that if they brought back some of that mix, a bit of double heading and perhaps the odd ATV programmeon the half hour (like giving SWIPE a slot in the EPG for example as a starter, along with some of that partner content they now produce with Yahoo), then it'd go half way to getting things back on track in my opinion.
I think the BBC News channel has come on leaps and bounds since NBH - and they prove you can have a news channel which boasts great journalism and make good use of the set, a variety of stood and sat down presentation and utilising graphics as they should be used, to paint pictures and inform. As much as I'd get shot down for saying that stood Top of the hours should be brought back on the news channel, in fact stood up presentation in any capacity - it's helped bring back a variety of light and shade which news channels, in this day and age need.
Kay Burley wandering around the set for the hell of it... No. Kay Burley at the news wall explaining a story and using graphics to convey what's being said... Yes. Sky News need to find a balance or middle ground - not lurch one way and have presenters prancing round the studio and then 2 years along the line, lurch the other and desk-bound them. Find the correct balance - and for lord sake stick with it.
10 years ago, anyone saying that BBC News' style would ever be more dynamic and varied than Sky News would have been laughed at.
Regarding the new logo, it would be good if they used the Sky News Arabia-style logos as they're more on brand with the main Sky channels. That new DOG is hideous and the logo on the titles is not distinctive enough.
You must be watching a different BBC News to the one that appears on my tv.

This new Sky News logo is utter crap. I've just swivelled round now to see the weather on screen - the text in the logo is out of proportion, the logo as a whole is out of proportion with the weather time strap, and the graphics as a whole look an absolute mess.
It's a good thing I also find the journalism to be a bit lacking, otherwise I'd be faced with a graphic disaster every day.

As much as Worzel often describes things in Dickensian depth; with grandiosity and exaggeration abound, he actually has a point. Sky News is less watchable than BBC News, ITV News, and Channel 4 News - arguably, in every way possible.
I am in agreement with most of you guys that the new look Sky News logo & set is quite poor so far.
I had briefly watched the news slot with Jeremy Thompson at 6pm yesterday evening for about 3 to 4 minutes. The studio at the angle where it was pointing towards the news wall looked terrible as I felt the shot was too dark & gloomy because the carpet being removed from the floor under the desk.
There is also a TV Monitor there in shot behind the camera on the blue wall. I think that monitor should have been raised & re-aligned further upwards & the presenter should read the news in front of it. The color on the wall should have remained with the red color that was there previously or a pairing of the two colors would be a welcome move. It is also looks too far under the desk. I don't think that the presenters are able to able to see themselves on camera when they go to show a report or when they are on their break.
I had to switch off because as I said before the presentation has gone worse than before. I don't know whether a temporary move as the big screen monitor to the left of the presenter which was there last time could be used again as a background.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken but I didn't think any studio changes had been unveiled on air yet?
Agree that the logo is not great and I'm at a loss as to what the thinking behind it must be but I'll reserve judgement until all the new elements are in place.
