Shame the rebrand won't include the on air style for ITV1 which is both drab and boring.

Most of the time on here when there is a new look, comments generally involve
"Never mind changing the idents yet again, they should sort out the schedule"
So it looks like this time it is what they are doing

However, he admitted the issue of interrupting movies for the 10pm news - one of the main reasons the bulletin was moved in the first place - was still to be resolved.

"I am not a great fan of breaking movies," he said. "It is something people would kind of expect in the 70s and 80s but it is much more difficult now. It is unnatural."

If you are so against it, why on earth have ITV started doing it on Saturday afternoons too so they can show the Evening News at the ridiculous time of 4.30pm!

I think the evening news schedule needs to be addressed. It's always been odd having national news following regional news. The Lunchtime and Late news shows all follow the logical way of regional after national, and all of BBC One's bulletins do too.

Two solutions:

1. Swap them around to bring them directly in-line with BBC One's 6pm news hour.
2. Keep the regional news at 6pm but move the evening news to 5.30pm / 5.45pm.

That way things are consistently logical in a National/Regional structure throughout the day.

You really think they are likely to move the successful ITV Evening News considering they have spent the last decade trying to rescue the News at Ten situation after the last time someone decided to mess around with the established news schedule?

Your reasoning is so irrational they might just do it!

I don't believe I said it was likely Andrew.

5.45 National News
6.00 Regional News
6.30 Free slot for quiz shows/new formats

That's arguably more healthy than what we have now.

If ITV pres can't get the addition of 'Wales' correct on its idents why bother? - its just sloppy. Maybe the plan is to drop the 'W' word altogether.

Technically it would be very easy to overlay any of the regional names onto the ITV1 idents using readily available software. The timing of the appearance of the logo never changes within each ident, and it is simply a case of programming the system to fade the appropriate name in at the right time - It is the cut into the next programme where the problems start, as the overlay needs to fade away at the same time (and style) as the ident does.

The current system that employs a demented fool with a 1982 Caption Generator and Fader seems to illustrate that they really don't seem that bothered about doing it properly.

That would be the best of those two options. It'd be better than the way ITV1 currently does it. Although I do think the
overall viewership between ITV and BBC for the early evening news programs wouldn't really change. The BBC would
probably still get marginally more viewers for their early evening news hour than ITV would get for theirs.

Well, it'd be the chance to bring back "News at 5:45", to perhaps coincide with the latest revival for "News at Ten".
Of course, having the main news scheduled in a pre-6pm timeslot, it can no longer be classed as evening news.

Speaking of "News at Ten" ... earlier in this thread . . .

Grade has already ruled out bringing back News at Ten.

Personally I see no reason to bring back News at Ten again as long term it would just be axed once more

So much for the head honcho ruling out it's return. But would it really end up being being cancelled yet again?

Don't know if this has been mentioned on this thread but is ITV still going ahead with full 16:9 for ALL news progs incl regional ?

I was thinking about that. I'm sure somebody mentioned the end of the year. Although they may hold back until all of the rejigging of the news, as I presume they will somehow revamp the set/studio, unless they just have a seperate studio for news at ten, or maybe they won't bother at all.

I hope they bother. They have said News at Ten will have its own look, whether or not this means using the same studio but with different graphics on the video wall and straps or a different studio remains to be seen.

Besides, the ITV News presentation needs a big revamp anyway. Sky News' tweaked studio is marvelous, can ITV not manage something like that?

I'd be very surpsided if ITV News don't go 16:9. Maybe even the in studio bits will be HD...I think the Aussie channels have HD news (studio)progs
