@DTV I would say to that, when the Press Office site, and a new product launch is announced, with a Twitter Account and Website made for this new thing - when they all use a Logo which looks obviously poorly mocked up - you do have to wonder...

But then you also have this incorrect Gill Sans logo on the BBC Media Centre.

I think it's just sloppiness.

Two ideas come to mind:

Either some kind of complete overhaul and getting rid of the blocks entirely, or a "mass fine tuning", getting every Beeb division to have the same style of logo.

Obviously, they wouldn't do either of these - but it doesn't hurt to explore the what ifs in life

Surely a version to be displayed very small would require the letters to be larger if anything. Smaller, and they’d disappear.

I think it’s just, as Warbler says, a bad recreation.

Not necessarily, if you were seeking to preserve spacing. But you’re right, it’s still possible it’s a bad recreation.

That God awful BBC Select logo is just a more obvious manifestation of a problem the BBC has had for a couple of decades now.

Mock versions of the logo, because it looks like it's going to be easy to recreate, have been floating around the internet for years; and worse than that, they've been making their way onto TV screens, merchandise, etc for years too.

The BBC blocks in the titles of many past and current programmes are not the official BBC blocks... there are several variants floating about title sequences.

The new BBC FILM logo is also continuing a long tradition, set by its predecessor BBC FILMS, of using a mock set of BBC blocks.

When I saw this image earlier this year, I realised things have gotten into a bit of a mess.

Where is that from? Everything looks off.

Are the BBC Scotland and BBC Cymru Wales logos both in Reith? In which case, why is the lower case 'a' different in both?

The image is from an article about the BBC providing daily lessons for children during the first lockdown - it might not be online anymore.

I don't know why Wales use a different version of Reith - have we discussed it before?

I think there was some discussion that Reith has alternate versions of some glyphs.

I seem to remember someone saying that the single-storey* ‘a’ was created for child-friendly uses, but that Wales decided to use it for their logo.

(*No idea what the technical term is – can anyone enlighten me?)

To make matters worse then, the new BBC Radio Scotland logo uses the same style as 'a' as BBC Wales, except it doesn't have the curly bit on the end. So that's three different versions. It's bad enough that those various BBC logos use a mish-mash of different fonts without the BBC's own font also coming in numerous different versions.

Does this mean that BBC Four's channel logo will change from black to purple?

Maybe they were meant to rebrand this year, but COVID stopped them filming new idents so they stuck to the existing package, which except for the actual logo has already been Reithed anyway?
