You miss the point. The blocks were designed in 1996 and it is the blocks that made up the logo. The font of the letters could be in Comic Sans for all the difference it makes, the basic design still dates from 1996.

So mainstream entertainment shows & in-house drama is on BBC America, archive & smaller ent shows are on BritBox (US) and from the press release this is... BBC Three shows?

Indeed. But the "straight" version first appeared in the 1997 look. Everything prior to that since the 1950s was slanted.
I suppose its perfectly possible to split hairs on things like this.

It's also got a dodgy knockoff copy of the BBC nav bar and the normal BBC footer is absent. Looks more like someone who's been tasked to create a BBC-looking website in an afternoon than something actually from the BBC - not saying this is a fake, it could well be some external marketing agency has been brought in to manage the pre-release press stuff. Like the logo, it's close enough that most people won't notice it's not right.


The nameservers for the site are bbcstudios.com, so seemingly this is real.

Oh, I'm sure it's a legit site, I just don't think it's been put together by anyone working for the BBC's web or marketing teams. There's clues in the code about it being a pre-release site, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it completely change before the service actually launches.

When i've searched 'BBC Logo' on image search, there are one or two logos that do look a little like the ones used on the Select logo but in black so not sure if they've found those and recoloured them or just made their own, but it is odd whatever has happened, but then again, the BBC right now aren't the best at cohesive branding

It's worrying if that is the future corporate logo on there, it looks so silly but with the way branding is across the BBC at the moment nothing would surprise me. I suspect if it does change we'll have the 'old' logo around for a long time.
