I'm sure everyone remembers Graham Kelly

FA Cup third round draw in December 1997.

Great stuff. No recollection of that ITV Sport ident.

This was of course the first third round draw mounted by ITV, on a Sunday teatime. It was two seasons earlier that they'd moved from the old way of doing it in an FA conference room by some suits or other to doing it in front of a live audience with a bit of showbiz glamour - albeit still with Graham Kelly. The Beeb did it on Monday night for those first two seasons.

Note also at the Bob referring to "a new series" of The Big Match as this was when they re-introduced the Big Match branding for all their football coverage, not that they used it on air much.

Yes, they used Jerusalem for their FA Cup coverage up until 2001.

The most 80's promo ever when Thames tries to get trendy:
scottishtv and bilky asko gave kudos

An oddity here in 1988; we've seen examples of the likes of Yorkshire debranding their standard slides to introduce Party Political Broadcasts, here's BBC1 doing the opposite with a slide that looks a lot like the typography that accompanies the COW.

(It isn't quite the same font, the upper case U differs from that shown on the South/South West regional COWs)

A non-news use of Channel 4's abandoned 1990/91 rebrand, 89 seconds in? The bumpers and loud noises seemed to suggest so.

It's similar in terms of idea, but a different shape and size in the screen. And how many ways are there of writing a 4 using one stroke? I don't hear the comparison with the audio

I think it's just their design for that season and not connected

An example of why Live & Kicking was more Dead & Buried towards the end with this clip.

To be fair, CBBC continuity tried their hardest to ramp up the excitement with their intro, but then the show runs with a 'snake' for nearly three minutes of the start of the show and it falls completely flat. Even the programme lineup shows they were trying to get some cheap Pokémon knock-off to attract the SMTV viewers.

All in all, it's not great.

I have to say, I did like the graphics on that reboot of L&K. Everything else sucked though.

How Low Would You Go?

Nice to see someone from the L&K production team in the 'ideas for features' pre-series brainstorm, remembered the 'Wannabe's' feature from The Word, ripped it off, and made it a bit more kid friendly...
