This isn’t Gold as such, but could you imagine back in the day ITV doing this with the IBA announcements and the transmitters served...?

Pre-recorded surely? That's a lot of information shoved in 55 seconds worth to hit the top of the hour and not fluff any of it?

Why not, fits in perfectly here. What's your definition of 'gold'?

In a sense of it’s not something that I would consider to be rare or a classic in that regard. But if you or anyone else for that matter thinks it’s Gold, then I have no problem with that.

For the avoidance of any doubt:

It's definately rare, I've not seen anything like it before.

It's certainly a lot more interesting than some of the videos posted here. I think any definition of the word gold has been long ignored, which is not a bad thing

What Play Your Cards Right/Card Sharks looked like down under, from a 1990 repeat of a 1984 show, the only year the show ran in Australia:


Presenter is "Ugly Dave Gray", who (it says here) was actually born in Manchester and has a credit for an episode of The Good Old Days in 1964. Apparently the cigar is "ever present" with him.

Interesting to note the format rolls over from show to show which I think may be relatively unique as we know all the UK variations of this format didn't do that and I don't think it was part of the US format either.

The Australian version of TV shows tend to either be the same as their US or UK counterparts or a total revamp. MasterChef and Married at First Sight are probably the best examples of this.

Family Feud Australia is probably closer to the US version although it is clear that dumb Answers exist no matter where you are in the world:

Having a presenter smoking their way through something seems very odd for as late as 1984. Or even a decade earlier.

Deal or no Deal in Australia from 2003:

I believe Australia was the first English speaking territory to debut the format. It has some features that don’t feature in the other versions like questions to select a contestant to play which I believe was later dropped.

Also had the box openers guessing the value in later series which ultimately made it all quite solely as rather than the pleasantries here you just got them saying "$500" etc before opening the box.
