Ive just checked on the Corrie video’s

The 1974 video includes when Bet, Rita, Mavis, Emily, Deirdre etc went to Majorca
The 1977 video includes the silver jubilee and the Len and Rita Fairclough’s wedding
The 1983 video includes Ken/Deirdre/Mike triangle, The Ogden’s Ruby Wedding and Len’s death.
The 1984 video includes Elsie leaving, Stan’s funeral
The 1986 video includes Peter and Susan Barlow’s 21st, The Rovers Fire and Kevin and Sally’s wedding
The 1989 video includes the factory being demolished, Alan’s trial, Alan being killed by that tram and the Christmas episode.

Im not sure whether that house will be where this new character lives? Possibly as its been empty since Curly left.

I remember the Desai family, I didn’t like Vikram but the daughter, Nita, was OK. I also heard rumours that the Tanner family might be brought into the show, Elsie Tanner’s grandchildren etc.

I have some of those Corrie year videos - I think they made 10 videos for the 30th Anniversary in 1990 (videos with the most important years like 1977, 1984, 86, 80 etc). I have the 1986 video (presented by Sally) and the 1989 one (presented by Barbara Knox). The 1989 one includes Alan's trial and death and the 1986 one includes the Rovers Fire, which is one of my earliest memories of watching Corrie - I rememeber Sally and Kevin raising the alarm, they were far better characters back then.

It would be nice for Corrie to show some older episodes with classic characters like Hilda and Elsie in them - Elsie was my fave character on the Granada Plus episodes, sadly I was too young to rememeber her the first time around as she left ithe show in 1984. I have that episode on the 1984 video, it was sad especially as Pat Phoenix died of Cancer a few years after.

Ah, I remember Elsie, she was one of my favourite characters on Classic Corrie as well, a great shame when Pat Phoenix died. They never made a 'corrie year' video of 1980, I don't think, did they? Even so, if they did make one in 1990, you could be sure the video would be dominated by Ena Sharples' departure. On another note, Jez [on anyone], have you seen the clip from January 1965 where Ena and Elsie had a big bust-up over Elsie's house? Elsie: 'Now look here, you cheeky-faced monkey, you'll only move me out of this house when I want to go - I the mean time go jump in the cot!' And with that - Ena smashed Elsie's window with her handbag... Laughing I remember that bit, especially when Elsie had to be pulled back by Ken to stop her from hitting Ena, the same with her, having to be pulled back by Stan. Err... anyone else?

The clip you are talking about was on the Corrie DVD in The Sun a few weeks ago and that it is on there and it is quite funny.

Yeah, but the full 3 minute version is on the 'Women of Coronation Street' video, have you seen that

Ive seen a clip of the Ena V Elsie scene ages ago I think - although ive seen very little pre 1976 which is when G+ started showing it from. I liked the episodes from 1976-1984 with Elsie, in particular her scenes with lodgers Gail Potter and Suzie Birchall.

From what I remember of Ena's departure on G+ (orginally from 1980) it was low key, she just announced she was moving away and that was that, IIRC the character had been written out of the show several times due to ill health so it wasnt really that unusual - I read they planned to bring her back but she was too ill and then died a couple of years later. late 1983 and 1984 was a bad year for the show - they lost original characters Albert Tatlock, Elsie Tanner and Annie Walker - as well as Len and Stan who had been in it years. Ken Barlow was left as the only original cast member in the show that year! And he is still there 20 years later!

No I dont think there was a video made of 1980 - only those I mentioned above and a few from the 1960s.

Unfortunately I didnt get that DVD as I didnt buy the sun newspaper that day!

I haven't seen all of it, I thought all of it was on the DVD. But if you watch the DVD there's another bust-up between Ena and Elsie when Elsie starts having a go at Ena in the Snug, though I think that is the part which leads up to the fight on the street.

Yep, Violet Carson (Ena) died Boxing Day 1983. I was sad to see the hairnet go to Lytham St. Anne's, no more battles with Elsie, etc. It was low key, but he made it quite clear that she wouldn't be moving back, at which Albert Tatlock burst out laughing for some reason (I've got the episode on video - I got off Granada)

They never killed Elsie and Ena off did they? So, they must be still alive - in the soap Elsie is about nearly in her 90's Crying or Very sad , Ena's nearly... 100 years old! Shocked

That fight in the Snug is from Episode Nine-ish in 1961, the fight in 1965 was of a different subject. Though they did have a full scale battle that year, 1961 (ten months after the Snug fight) over the same subject, LOL at Elsie's line 'They don't need sewers round 'ere, they've got Ena Sharples!'

There are not many characters who have low key exits, from watching the old episodes on Plus, how was Phyllis written out of it? As I knew she died in real life at some point, possibly when she was still in it. They didn't make a big fuss of Percy Sugden's exit either, as I can't remember properly but wasn't he moved to a home and we never saw him again. But then unfortunately he died in real life too. But probably the biggest low key exit was of Stan Ogden, as it was a shame for the soap and in real life.

Street's first gay couple
by Jonathan Donald

Auditions are underway to find an actor to become one half of the first homosexual couple in Coronation Street.

The new recruit will hook up with Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley) who delivered the Street's first gay kiss last month when he planted one on an unsuspecting Nick Tilsley (Adam Rickitt).

A Corrie spokeswoman told TV Plus: "We are auditioning for a character who will play a love interest for Todd. It was always the plan that this would be a storyline for Todd."

The newcomer will finally lure the young man out of the closet after months of angst over his sexuality.

He is expected to be around the Street for a few weeks before making a play on Todd. The storyline is likely to anger some Corrie purists.

What the hell is a "Corrie purist"?

If it really angers them that much, I think perhaps the time has come to switch off the tv and start to think *outside of the box* a little bit.

Well this is very interesting!! I hope the new Character is a nice one, someone who Todd can plant a real one on unlike Nick 'Wrong move Todd' Tilsley.

I wonder what it will be like when Todd has to tell Eileen that he's Gay? I bet she takes it well and gives it the 'Well I kind of new' treatment. Just wonder how Jason will take it. Don't think he's the kinda guy who likes puffs.

I wonder when this will be on screen by? Early 2004 probably, or if this guy is here before xmas, he could plant one on him under the mistletoe. Now that will give Norris something to Gossip about!

I thought Todd's 'love interest' was to be Jimmy the hospital porter?
