Yes, that's the one! Presumably they must have still had the original in storage to have gone back to it for the next series- which they stuck with until the end of Strike It Lucky in 1994 (when it became Strike It Rich they revamped everything completely).

Another thing I remember from a few years back, someone uploaded an episode of the show that they were on, and in the comments told us they never actually got the "prizes" they won, just the cash equivalent.

You can also tell how the buttons under the screens are just dummies as quite often it gets activated before the constestant een presses it.

I think the experience/jokey prizes in Strike it Rich were provided by Red Letter Days, so one at least presumes these were possible to actually purchase at home.

Its Challenge birthday this coming Friday. Its had plenty of ups and downs, I wonder if anyone will be said on screen.

They've mentioned their birthday on their Facebook page so far this week.

I wonder if there would be any major announcement from Challenge to coincide with the 20th anniversary on Friday?

Like they've commissioned another 204 repeats of The Chase?

Well looking at the schedule the birthday schedule is from 6am, Catchphrase x6, Sweep x6, Pointless x2, Chase x3, Millionaire x1, Crystal x1, Pointless x1, Chase x2, Millionaire x1 and Bullseye x2.

No real difference from any other current weekday schedule save for Takeshi, Family Fortunes, Ninja Warrior, Golden Balls and Wheel of Fortune. Is that it, twelve programmes to fill 18 hours on a weekday? Jeez.

Challenge Prize Time would have been a dream for this forum had it been around at the time, just like how the short lived quiz TV era with Quizmania etc and the likes of Price Drop TV had a cult following here.

The Games Room would have gone down about as well as man boobs in the sea though.

That games room was dire, and there got in some crap presenters, and it just felt meh. Of course this was around the time new management come in to being. anyways it never lasted long and got the chop.

Family Challenge Weekend was a strand to act as a transition between The Family Channel and Challenge TV. Challenge TV was meant to launch in October 1996 but they postponed it due to the announcement of Granada Sky Broadcasting. Kinda seems weird to want to give your rival a head start but I guess it paid off in the long run. It also gave them a chance to relaunch Bravo & Living at the same time as well as launch Trouble.

Sorry to be pedantic, but Challenge can't commission The Chase repeats.
They can buy the rights to repeat another 204 shows of ITV Studios, but not commission a repeat.

Pity Sky have appeared to have lost interest in the archive raiding with Challenge.
Yes it appeals more to game/quiz show geeks like myself, but it would be nice for them to show old shows that haven't been seen in years, and step off the treadmill of Bullseye, Pointless and The Chase at least once a year.

The original challenge format was genius, padding out the programmes with an engaging (and fair) viewer interaction quiz that brings in phone revenue.

Surely that would still work now?

Repeating old series doesn't seem to be helped by the fact that most of them are adaptations of American formats, typically made by small companies run by individual producers, and the rights to some have become murky over the years.

This wouldn't be a problem if you knew you were getting a Bullseye, but all that work for an old Bob Stewart or Barry/Enright show might not be seen to be worth the hassle.

Also its been said many times before, for every classic blockbusters, or Wheel of Every second counts etc Challenge needs the money from a showing Pointless, the Chase, Millionaire. Its a business and its need to cover the costs. There is one other programme which should be on that continues loop but we all know what that is...
