They have left the contestant appeal in over the credits of some Family Fortunes episodes too (usually the Les era) but have a caption placed over the screen to say that the contestant appeal has now closed.

I'm suprising they didn't make alternate edits without the appeal on them, especially as they recorded seperate intros to part 2 which didn't mention the viewer competition.

Presumably for repeats on ITV where the competition was long gone but the appeal to write into Nottingham would have still been valid. Obviously not valid now, considering they flogged the building in 2004.

Probably because they thought if it's getting a re-run, the show must still be running in some form so contestant applications will still be open - unlike the competition.

Speaking of which, I noticed the latest Gino hosted version had the appeal at the end, after the credits/endcap. Presumably so that if Challenge do repeat it in the future, it will be really easy to chop off.

What Challenge need to do in the future is probably not their concern.

For ITV, it's certainly not their concern.

For Fremantle for international sales (in the short term), domestic repeats (long term)? I would say it's part of their concern to make edits as easy as possible.

All I know is that is how it went out.

But Fremantle (and others) have previously supplied other shows to Challenge with contestant appeals intact. Unless its a new policy, they've been happy to provide them as near enough originally broadcast and Challenge have had to do the legwork in that area.

Of course it depends on the show and decisions made at the time. If a "clean" copy was made, issue takes care of itself. Otherwise, cutty cutty snip snip.

Fremantle's business is probably just to sell them and let the broadcaster worry about that.

Who on Earth is going to apply by letter or phone for a TV programmes that's an ancient repeat?

You'd be surprised. Give people a phone number and they will phone it. Its why you often see 01632 landline numbers or 07700 900xxx mobile numbers on UK TV programmes and 555 numbers in film, as these don't actually go anywhere, you just get cut off. Look up 867/5309 on Wiki and thank God that was not your phone number in the US in the early 1980s, as it was (and presumably still is) a valid number in many areas.

I was reading about that only last week... there's even websites where people have dialled that number in every area code and listed what they got. And most of the ones that were valid numbers got pissed off that they phoned them, presumably sick to death of it!

I just caught the end of Bruce's Price is Right where they cut the entire credit sequence up to the endcap. Even for Challenge, that's a new low.

Assuming the episode that's just gone out was a repeat of the one mentioned here (where the lady lost the showcase by £100), that's a horrible edit.

Actually in an update to cutting of credit sequence, having had a shufty on YouTube this has been the case apparently (on Price is Right at least) for many months now. Plenty of examples on YouTube.

Challenge have not long ago aired a 2001 Price is Right episode which looks like it may have had a relatively elaborate looking contestant appeal. Using the 2001 ECP style, the credit area looked like it had a firework style and where the studio picture was blank, and the normal credits followed shortly afterwards.

In fact the latter part looked like this, from an older airing that I've found on YouTube which had the firework effect cut out (and audio jump) so I think its safe to assume it was part of a contestant appeal:
*

I can't find a shot of the ECP design online, it was quite distinctive.

Well conclusive proof that the amount of monkeys given to or by Challenge to anything about this channel is now officially zero. The voice overs don't match the programmes, they don't match the ECPs, the ECPs themselves don't match the programme they're on ("More Wheel of Fortune" after an episode of The Chase for example), advertising programmes that aren't even on... Credit edits that are literally a straight cut with no regard to the end result and for no obvious reason, presentation full of references to stuff they haven't shown in a month of Sundays, Even the amount of adverts being shown seems to have been reduced, replaced primarily by trailers for content on the rest of the Sky channels (primarily Sky Atlantic and Cinema). The channel is effectively sponsored by itself via Sky VIP, clearly nobody else is interested.

Sigh. It used to be so good. Now it looks like its limping along on life-support. I can only presume something contractual is keeping this lame duck going (or they're holding onto it in case they can stick more football on it like they did last year).
