CBBC Channel

Today’s show didn’t have much live content, it was basically one show (they did Dragons, Crackerjack, Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese, She-Ra, Odd Squad and So Awkward Files) with 5 min links in between them.

Something I've thought about recently: I remember when the BBC moved the Saturday morning CBeebies and CBBC slots from BBC One to BBC Two between late 2005 and early 2006, there was quite an outcry as people feared children's programmes were going to be taken off the main BBC channels for good, which I thought was inevitable anyway, considering Auntie launched two new children's channels on digital four years prior, and even then, the move of programmes to BBC Two happened as early as 1987, when the See-Saw strand moved from One at an earlier time.

Looking at the final CBBC on One schedules, they were very uninspired IMO, dumped with endless repeats and cartoons already shown multiple times on the CBBC Channel: it's no surprise why they canned children's programming, except for Christmas time.

Even then, I always thought it strange how BBC Two brought back CBBC programming on Saturday mornings three years ago, when I always associated CBeebies outside of the main channel with BBC Two, much more so than One, (considering they removed CBeebies programming for good in September 2010).

It's important to remember that One and Two (maybe even Four) still have a requirement to air a certain number of hours of children's content each year.

It may be that One gets by with the films, but Two required more, and it was thought that airing CBBC programming on Saturday mornings was the easiest way to do this (I believe it also came into effect when Saturday Mash-Up first launched?)

I also spotted a CBeebies House link clearly filmed at the presenter’s home today. Some DIY decorations and Dodge singing along on a small tv next to her.

I presume this is how they are going to keep the birthday cards going too.

I thought they'd suspended doing the birthdays.

No, they said they were looking at how to do the birthdays without the studio links. Nothing announced yet

I saw one earlier that was Dodge on a CSO'd background cut with Ben somewhere else, obviously both filming at home because the picture quality of Dodge wasn't great and Ben's audio was a bit poor.

Milkshake on Channel 5 are doing the birthdays by showing the cards as a caption with a voiceover. Though they seem to have some studio links too, presumably older non specific ones


I hope Cbeebies work something out, we've a birthday coming up in our house soon!

They said they were looking at “alternatives” in the Instagram post.

(Which I’ll declare a slight interest in as my wife spent ages and ages on a card for our daughter’s birthday on the 17th )

From 27th April, CBeebies birthdays will be done from the presenters homes. Viewers just have to send a picture of the card in over email.

I've not seen about them being presented from home, but they have been doing that for other links. However it seems the birthdays will be on YouTube rather than the TV. Also as their last recording was for April 10th there'll be no birthdays between then and he 27th - any cards sent on for those days are inaccessible
