Hearing that BTSX 5 and 6 are likely to close shortly bearing in mind that they wont be needed with the staggered UEFACL Group Stage KOs from next season. Will also free some channel space for the Sky Channels on the BTTV platform in 2019 too.
Confirmation from UEFA today of the staggered Group Stage KO's from next season, nothing now to prevent the closure of these channels pretty quickly.

Arent they still obliged to broadcast this year’s finals (the last of the current deal before their free to air obligations are removed) FTA? If so, will an online stream suffice?
I enquired on Live Chat and they've told me it was a decision made by UEFA rather than BT. Although who's to know if that was just a chat advisor trying to deflect the blame...

I believe that part of the new deal is that they’ll be using social media more. To be fair to BT on Champions League and Europa League games they get the goals on Facebook and Twitter very quickly. I wouldn’t be surprised if they used something like Facebook Live next season.
I don’t think the ratings for Showcase ever justified the expense, especially with an HD slot. Saying that it doesn’t help that it was never promoted.
