Presumably as well as being a good way to save money it's great prep for when they move to Salford, supposedly they won't have a proper studio there, I could see them coming from a corner of an office or any other bit of space they can blag when they move up there.
Why is that?
Are you so naive to think that the BBC's new base in Salford will lack facilities to such an extent that 'Blue Peter' will be presented from the corner of an office?
Well, you're both half right. Salford does have studios, yes, but they cost lots of dollar to use and will be primarily for big programmes that need a studio; shows like Strictly need a lot of space. Magazine programmes like The One Show and Blue Peter don't need a lot of space, they need a sofa and a bit of perspex so it looks nice, perhaps an illuminated coffee table. 'The One Show' essentially comes out of the corner of an office, and there was talk of Blue Peter doing the same.
What I'd heard internally was that when the original Salford consultation happened many years ago, it was agreed they would build a nice big in-office studio space for Blue Peter, the entire floor the same size as their then studio, TC1. Since then, Blue Peter's budget got slashed, so they could no longer afford or justify putting Blue Peter in their most expensive office space - so they'll now have a normal office. Presentation and Newsround will share the bigger office and studio, so there'll be the Newsround set and Presentation set side by side.
The lastest whispers I'd heard were that Blue Peter would just shoot 'on location' around the Quays, possibly even as an OB a specially fitted out ship on the quays - single camera, no lives.
