Not the best theme tune, but at least they haven't messed up and used the " proper " hornpipe this time! Smile

Why shouldn't they use Barnacle Bill?

Current version is awful. Too chavvy. Appealing to the uneducated underclass. Setting their sights too low. Disappointing.

What on earth has the tune got to do with class? It's modern! Kids like modern. Bring in the orchestra and it'll date it. Put it this way, are kids listening to radio 3 or radio 1?

Just watched it, it kinda felt like a kids version of Click/The Gadget Show. (OK the content majored on technology in this episode, but it did feel more 'relevant'/modern)

I thought the new look Blue Peter was spot on. It was relevant, and yet harked back at the old spirit of the programme which has been missing for some time. A masterstroke to have the hosts enter the complex by air and water, really added some scale to it.

Neither, they're listening to Crapital.

I never mentioned an orchestra. They could make it "modern" without totally murdering it under a wall of noise. Mike Oldfield's version was "modern" for the time (synth, rock, drums, guitar) but still managed to keep the basic melody. Even the Stomp version had the melody in there.

I think I wrote a few months ago that I thought it should become a kinda 'One Show for kids' and I felt the look of today's show as well as this new idea of having special guest reporters on different subjects, was very 'One Showy'.

I actually think it's good way of doing things and today's episode was probably the least patronising of TV I've seen from CBBC in a while.
Kinda ironic considering One Show host Matt Baker is a former Blue Peter presenter.

Mike Oldfield's version was Aweful. The 1999 version was and still is the best, but the new music is growing on me.

The titles fall apart after Helen "throws" the cgi ball. There have been better examples of people interacting with cgi elements, this felt clumsy.

...but my opinions count for nothing because I am not a kid, I've not watched Blue Peter for over a decade (It was Katy Hill, Konnie Huq, Simon Thomas and Matt Baker when I last watched), and if the viewers like the titles, who cares what a TV forumer thinks.

Almost as awful as your spelling and punctuation? It did get to number 19 in the charts, back when the charts actually meant something, and is one of the longer running incarnations of the theme as it was used for 10 years.

I must admit I am a bit of a sucker for their 2008 themetune, the one that has just been ditched. Although the new one isn't awful, certainly better than the ones used between 2006-08. It seems a bit like they have tried a bit hard to make its sound modern - but that's just my opinion. I love the current logo, I think it's the best they have EVER had and the little tweaks made to it are spot on.
The studio is a departure from recent years, yet more inline with 2000's BP - and I love it.
The titles have very little musicality until Barney takes over - they seem slow compared to the music but a nice job never the less.
I don't see that this is a fresh start for the program as since 2008 the show has been pretty consistent and well balanced. I see it as more or less a continuous of the brand restoration project that Levell has been implementing since his takeover.

Good luck BP!

I think Michael's referring to this version from 2008 which is the Sailor's Hornpipe, not Barnacle Bill

Following this being pointed out it was redone, such as this 2009 example as a hybrid of the two

Chris Moyles refers to the One Show as being Blue Peter for Adults!

Only saw snippets from yesterday and didn't think much of the theme/titles from what I'd seen - but it worked much better today with the build up and pre-cap, as I guess they're designed to be used.

So the Appeal is "Bake a Difference" - basically holding bake sales for Children in Need and tell Blue Peter how many cakes you've made (not sold). A shame really it isn't for something more specific - most schools probably do something for Children in Need anyway - indeed shouldn't it be for an international charity this year considering it was for Whizz Kids last year?

Oh I long for the days of Peter Purves, John Noakes and Lesley Judd,

The only thing we had to worry about was how many silver milk bottle tops we collected for the Blue Peter appeal!
