jugalug: what do you expect them to do if it's raining, hailing, snowing, or there's heavy winds, or there's a thunderstorm, still present from the garden? There must be a suitable indoor space available for them to use at short notice if necessary, especially with it being a live programme.

So this could be the reason why we haven't a studio at the moment, perhaps its gone for good Sad

I honestly can't see them presenting every single programme from now until the move to Salford from the garden, unless they start presenting on location.

The garden can only be used if the weather permits them to, which means there must be an indoor studio available if they need to use it.

You said studio, not space.

Apologies I cannot remember the studio number

If they do not have a studio (Which no one seems to know) Could they not use the studio TMI currently occupies?

& If they do have a studio, then they would have used the studio for Selena Gomez's performance the other day.
Because that's a lot of effort to go to outside if they had a studio and they have never done it before from what I can think

It's about budgets and the cost of using a studio - it's not free. I think the TMI Studio (9) isn't permanently hired to CBBC anymore so it would still cost Blue Peter to use it. That's the reason they haven't been in the studio so far.

Studio 9 aaahhhh now I remember, it all floods back.

Clearly a studio would have costs, maybe they expected to move sooner?

Who knows, they could even just be saving some of the budget before they move. But I get the impression in the Children's department as a whole the budgets have been tightened. The last regular series of TMI was partly pre-recorded to reduce the amount of studio time.

I don't think CBBC have a permanent buy-out of any of the main studios at TVC (TC9 isn't really a main studio - though I don't think CBBC have bought that out either)

I think this means that Blue Peter would be paying every time they used a main studio - and more than anything there could be issues with actually booking space. The studios at TVC are currently very busy (it's great to see the place buzzing) - particularly now four of them are HD (and HD is now a major factor for a lot of UK broadcasters) - and there are still a lot of SD shows knocking around as well.

Presumably as well as being a good way to save money it's great prep for when they move to Salford, supposedly they won't have a proper studio there, I could see them coming from a corner of an office or any other bit of space they can blag when they move up there.

Why is that?

Are you so naive to think that the BBC's new base in Salford will lack facilities to such an extent that 'Blue Peter' will be presented from the corner of an office?

Well, you're both half right. Salford does have studios, yes, but they cost lots of dollar to use and will be primarily for big programmes that need a studio; shows like Strictly need a lot of space. Magazine programmes like The One Show and Blue Peter don't need a lot of space, they need a sofa and a bit of perspex so it looks nice, perhaps an illuminated coffee table. 'The One Show' essentially comes out of the corner of an office, and there was talk of Blue Peter doing the same.

What I'd heard internally was that when the original Salford consultation happened many years ago, it was agreed they would build a nice big in-office studio space for Blue Peter, the entire floor the same size as their then studio, TC1. Since then, Blue Peter's budget got slashed, so they could no longer afford or justify putting Blue Peter in their most expensive office space - so they'll now have a normal office. Presentation and Newsround will share the bigger office and studio, so there'll be the Newsround set and Presentation set side by side.

The lastest whispers I'd heard were that Blue Peter would just shoot 'on location' around the Quays, possibly even as an OB a specially fitted out ship on the quays - single camera, no lives.

As I mentioned last month, there have been a few changes. Most notably the circular floor 'rings' have different colours, the wallpaper colours on the mezzanie wall and the seating area have been swapped thus creating a predominantly red scheme in the seating area. I think it does look a lot fresher. The mezzanine level looks much better with the lighter colour. the brick work has been lightened aswell. many of these changes were due to come in last year, but leaving the time for us to get fed up of the last version of the set have paid off now I think!
