Been a while since I last posted on here and I've been looking back through this topic and it's really nice that BBC Two have decided to bring back some of their old "2's". Wonder if they will bring back the ones that never made it beyond 1997 (e.g Shadow and Balloon) or the ones that were really shortlived (e.g Glass, Paper Cut Out and Crystal Ball). It would be interesting to see what those ones would look like in HD.
Can't believe some people actually want the 2 gone entirely. It's a design classic, second oldest TV logo design still in use, after the Channel 4 one (leaving aside the very slight modification in 2007) and works just as well as it always has done when given a chance.

Someone suggested it might be more work getting those ones on screen due to them not being transferred from the old laser disks back in 1997. Chances are, they don't know where those disks are either, though Northern Ireland may well have kept theirs safe all these years.
Really hope that gets an outing in HD... the cleverness of the box makes me think it's likely an NI exclusive.
Patch logo laid over the clean Wave ident, composite as a Stencil Alpha to create a transparent cutout. Pull that comp in to a new comp, place another layer of Wave under that and invert the colour, make it black & white and tweak the parameters.
Job done!
Does anybody have any insight on how that water ident was created?
I
swear
there's an image *somewhere* of the production crew stood looking into the glass window of the tank with the 2 ready suspended.
But I can't find it anywhere. It was a tiny thumbnail alongside an article iirc. I also wonder if they shot the Night version on the same day or later or if it was merely some clever colour editing? The waves generated are different in each version.
Still amazes me most, if not all, of those 1991 idents were models.
If these are staying for the rest of the year I'd be surprised to see the "window on the world" idents back. Best bet would may be new versions of these in the New Year - or is that wishful thinking? I think if they keep it simple and keep the original concept in mind they'd probably be quite cost effective, especially compared to the last set.
Ah so that is what is wrong with the current idents, OLD 2 used in the classic press is in 3D form, while the windows to the world took away the power of the two. The stupid prat would made the change should get a telling off.
